Why is the app slow af? *FIXED*

every time I try to use the NS app I just get frustrated and switch to browser because it crashes every few minutes and takes ages to load. Even something as simple as switching from home page to ski gabber gives me a minute long wait. I switch to a browser and everything loads instantly. The app would be so dope if it wasn’t so clunky and broken.

Hey man, is this a new issue, or has it been slow for a while now? Trying to figure out if something we did may have caused a slow down.

The site has been running slow for me for a good week or so. Takes ages to load each page.

Have you tried clearing your cache and cookies?

Yup. Didn't help. Probs takes a good 15-20 seconds to load each page. Could it have anything to do with me accessing the site from the UK? I dunno what it is.

Not sure, its certainly something on your side though, I'm not sure if we can do much to help. Can you provide us with your OS for phone and browser/OS for desktop? We can investigate [tag=198199]@TRVP_ANGEL[/tag]

Fair enough. I don't use the app but I have trouble using chrome on my iphone & laptop.

I don't want to download and use a different browser just for NS haha.

I can stream 4k nice and easy on youtube etc. My internet is good. It's legit just NS that has a problem.
 
Same. I have the most up to date apple software and up to date NS app on my phone - very slow on WiFi and while using data. I was just in Florida on multiple WiFi’s and didn’t see much change in speed.

I use chrome on my Mac, slow to load just like on the app. I tried safari earlier with no luck. We have the supposed fastest internet food offers, even with all other devices off, it’s slow. Other sites are working fine.

My problem is only really with the app. The website, whether on mobile or desktop, works flawlessly.

App is just very slow and inconsistent. It crashes often (used to be even worse with crashes), if I’m scrolling fast or loading a lot of stuff it tends to crash every 10-15 minutes. It’s also takes ages to load some pages, sometimes they don’t load at all (in the 30ish seconds I’m willing to wait).Usually I just restart the app but the general slowness doesn’t go away. My general internet speed is consistent and good, the NS app is the only one with this problem.

I also have the very peculiar problem of this app not loading anything on WiFi. Like at all. Very strange. If I’m at home I have to switch off WiFi to use the app.

possibly relevant info: iPhone X, have stayed fairly up to date with iOS updates. Currently on 13.1.3. Live just outside NYC. 14 Mbps download, 14.4 Mbps upload. Verizon LTE. Can’t kfed.

Does the site/app run any better if you're logged in or logged out? And are you using an ad-blocker? If so does it run any better with it on or off? Are there particular sections that run slower or is it every page?

Looks like the browser and your internet speeds are not the issue as a few of you have tried mixing that up.

Just tried logging out, made no difference in speed/bugginess. I’m not running an adblocker of any kind so I can’t answer on that front. And there don’t seem to be any particular sections that run slower, it’s everywhere.

Idk if this is useful at all but I’ve also been getting a glitch pretty often where the home page will load, but then when I try to scroll down the taskbar at the bottom just comes up with the rest of the content and I scroll into a white page. Kinda hard to explain but it’s kinda like everything that loaded was just a “picture” that I can scroll right past. I just force close the app and it’s usually fine.

Really appreciate you guys making an effort to fix this stuff btw, glad to answer any more questions and provide info.
 
the site has not worked in the UK for over a month now, same for pretty much everyone i know here. Takes up to 2 mins to actually load the home page and any other content within the site.

We did something a week ago that should have alleviated the problem at least a bit. Is it still that slow today? Beyond that, where are you in the UK? It's barely any faster. Still taking a good 20/30 seconds or so to load each page here in England.
 
Hey everyone, after not using newschoolers for about a month because it just wouldn't load without taking forever, and the app not working properly, I found that using a VPN, I routed mine through LA, made it work just like new. I used express VPN but you don't really need to use that service. I find it interesting that even after moving 700 miles, and with a new internet service, I was still having issues. Makes me think its something on NS's end. Thought this might help.

Can't recall having any issues over there! Must just be a UK thing.

I know the EU just changed a bunch of privacy laws, but for websites in the USA, since the creation of the internet, everyone knows the location of your ISP when you visit a website, unless you use a proxy.

Are you able to help me out real quick so I can diagnose the issue? See here for a screencast on how to do it but basically when you're experiencing a slow load time do the following:

1. Open up Chrome and go to google.com

2. Right click -> Inspect

3. Go to network and make sure the red button is recording top left as well as preserve logs is checked

4. go tohttps://newschoolers.com

5. as soon as the page loads, go back to the chrome window and right click any entry and click "Save all as HAR with content"

After you save it, can you please email the HAR file over to help@newschoolers.com? I encourage anyone with this issue on Chrome help us fix it by submitting your logs :D

What about safari and firefox users? Im finding its still a major problem with both those applications unless I am using a VPN.

The underlying issue happens with any browser. I'm just simply giving instructions on how to investigate further on the chrome browser. Once we have identified the issue and pushed out a fix, it will apply to all browsers :)

Yup NS has been broken for a a few months for me. I don't use the app, but haven't been able to surf the website very much. The way that works for me is switching wifi every time I reload a page (which sounds crazy but works). Im running a pretty overpowered IMac for this to happen on as well...with speeds around 100mbps. Tried clearing my cache and cookies and still nothing seems to work. My best friend has been the Newschoolers Instagram and facebook to keep me updated haha. Let me know if you guys figure anything out as I would love to be able to surf and post videos without such an issue!

P.S. Took about 30mins to load the 4 pages in order to submit this
 
Once again if anyone is having a problem, use a VPN, instantly fixes everything. You don't need to use express VPN, but its what I use, I haven't tested it on other VPN services but theoretically it should work.
