Why is skiing so serious?

As cliche I know this entire thread is going to sound, I'll make it anyways.

People need to smile more when they're skiing, or at least show in some aspect that they're having fun. I'm watching the superunknown finalist edits and in some of them I almost feel scared. Actually no, I'm not scared, but really. All these super serious intros or gunshots and whatnot, really? Not ever being able to see a kids face or personality come through in his skiing just portrays a vibe that I find wayyy too serious for skiing. So, next time you go skiing...smile. Maybe even laugh. You don't have to be so hard, really. Claim something when you land it, or don't land it. Have more fun. On the contrary, I really liked Marshall Lacroix's edit for superunkown because it wasn't so serious, and a different, more personal feel.

And before I get completely hated on and my karma lowered (oh my god!), I will give the mandatory (or what seems to be on this forum nowadays) forum disclaimer:

"The following text is the original poster's opinion and cannot be regarded as hate or misfortune to any group or person associated, or not, with skiing."

Thanks :)

I agree 100% with the original poster. its pretty dumb how kids take skiing so seriously, like at my resort ill see kids getting all upset and shit for no reason..pretty lame.

I chuckle at this too. Some people are downright furious when they don't land a trick too. It's one thing if you are a pro and you have to get the shot for a film or something, but the average person should probably chill out a bit. I don't mind it at all personally, it just makes it that much more awesome when you finally stomp that trick/cliff/line you've been trying to get.

I'm feelin where you're comin from. Kids are constantly watching, evaluating, and judging each other in the park more than any other place on the hill. So, building a personna where you're all hard is everywhere. If you want to fit in, stare ppl down behind your bandanna and goggs all thug.

That's why I love gapers, they're the shit. They don't fucking give a shit about anything except having fun. Not all caught up in all the background gayness that goes on.

I get angry when i dont land stuff, because the more times you crash the more likely you are to get hurt. I have fun when i ski and thats why i dont do the park every damn run. I see kids i know sit in the lodge all pissed off because they cant land something, get over it. By the time i hit the first box, unless i have a broken bone im fine again... I agree, the edits are there to make them look bad ass and steeze, im sure when they ski with their buds they smile and fool around.

I totally agree with you, what's with everyone and judging everybody by there tricks. We all have to start to somewhere so you can stop starring at everyone with your whole face covered like 1/2 of the hill now. That is another thing everyone talks about having your own style ,but then everyone wears the same thing tall tees and bandanna's. That's why I love andy perry doesn't give a shit and is totally different.

Well, I tend to agree, skiing has gotten so fashionable, riders begin imitating the media of gangs and guns. I still hold on the hope that punk makes a come back and skiing will be about having fun and pushing each other for the show.

i personally dont like those kind of "hard core" whatever you want to call it edits.

my favorites are when you can just tell by watching that the skiers are just plain stoked to be skiing and are all laughing and having a good time.

skiing is fun!

your icon is disturbing. Do you really want to make people puke a little everytime they see man titties all over NS? If I give u +k will you change it? You have slowly been torturing me and you don't even know it.

no, but seriously, I don't think I'm alone

Usually when I'm skiing I'm always having a good time, but recently I've been frustrated because my park skiing has NOT been going the way it should be. I was doing 9s and cork 7s and shit, then I dislocated my shoulder and I'm back to 3s and shit. Not fun, but I'll be back.
And... I wear tight pants because it reminds me that I can't take skiing seriously, because I can't be taken seriously while wearing tight pants.

yeah agree with this 100% this little faggy kid at my mountain said i sucked casue i couldnt land a good fs 630 sry im not 5 ft tall with 130cm skis people need to lighten up and not be such pricks to other kids trying to have fun
