Why is everyone going to Hood

A sincere question because I actually care about the well being of others for once. Hood is a good place to go for a week or two, maybe a month if you are pro (even they only go there for like one session). But I see everyone planning to go to Govy, Live there, and find a job or something like settle down. Listen, Kids, Govy does not have the infrastructure for everyone to move and work there and then go ski. There are really no housing options if you plan on staying long term, jobs are already taken and summer jobs are highly competitive. You'd be better off going there with a gopro, and starting a film production company or something. Some of you might literally starve if this is your so-called "plan"(note my name Govy Gen Gourmet, named after the store Govy General that used to feed me their scraps because I did the same thing many of you plan to do this spring and summer). What are you hoping to gain out of it? Yeah skiing there is dope but after 2-3 weeks the hype dies down. Are you a pro skier, or are you just some kid who can't even ride the pro level setups they have there? Listen kids when it comes down to reality, skiing is a recreational sport it is not designed to support you for the rest of your life. The entire industry is dependant on snow, and what if the Palmer glacier barely survives the summer like in 2015? You'll get fucked. Govy will fuck you over if you intend to go there and stay for long. Listen to the old-timers there, and listen to this reading.

yeah I spent a week in govy last year and ever since then I too have been wondering why people aspire to spend entire summers there. As you've said, there's no jobs, no housing, the area is actually fairly remote, and the skiing will get old at some point in the summer no matter how passionate you are. That's what happens when you ski the same place for months on end. I also think the idea of camping in the woods for an entire summer is not only grimy, but dangerous. I've heard stories of so many roving methed out woodspeople out there.

I mean govy is barely even a town. It's basically one road with a handful of buildings on it

You sound like a fucking weekend warrior who’s pissy the mountain is packed on the weekend.

And clearly you don’t ski enough and understand you can make a living skiing without being pro.

Please enlighten us then, as far as I’m aware even most pros don’t make a living off skiing

Work a snowcat for a restaurant at night, ski during the day, put some money into a 401k for when I get old. Summer time I bounce around to what seems fun.

I guess it comes down to what you call living. Some people like op would call skiing a hobby not a lifestyle. I call skiing a lifestyle.

Just don’t bitch when people ski more than you.

It depends how much you like to ski. If you're getting older, realizing you don't care as much about skiing, and trying to make $$$, it's probably not the right option. IF you're obsessed with skiing, dying to ski in the summer, and down to camp it out or whatever and bum it, it's probably your jam.

I've never done a hood summer but did southern hem 3 of the last 4 years. I didn't make shit for money, but Iike to be out in the snow. Worth it.Do whatever yur feeling

You don't understand that what you and millions of others call a "living" is being threatened by multiple factions. Including But Not Limited To.. Nature, The Economy, Demand (what if all of the weekend warriors just figured out how skiing is just like boating, a money hole), and new development. Yes hate me if you will but i'm just pointing out the obvious here, skiing especially in GOVY in the Summer is not meant to support you for life, is Skiing stuffing food in your face, or is that mommy and daddy doing that? Most kids will have no issues this summer because they have rich parents but there will always be that ONE or Two guys that are unfortunate and end up getting stuck in the rut we know as Govy. I'm trying to save people's lives here man, telling them to keep skiing, get injured, make poor life decisions, and gain Nothing is not doing them any favors. If you're going to be a bum at least be a smart bum, have a skill or trade that is useful.. and no cork 7 is not a useful skill or trade.. at least not one that can sustain you for the next 3-5 years.

Wtf? Maybe some people plan to make camping and skiing hood a livelyhood lol. However, myself and many others just want to get away from the norms for the summer and have a sweet summer skiing, working, and making friends. Chill out, people can make their own decisions.

Wow I bet OP is really a really fun person, fuck off, let the kids have some fun in their youth, I gave up mine to make this happen so quit being a bummer and let us fuck up. I don't care if its hood, whistler or down south, Im skiing this summer somewhere.

No where in there did you deine me calling you a pissy weekend warrior. Henceforth you are just a weekend warrior has not right to judge what we funlovers do with our lives. Enjoy your Sunday traffic.

And for the record if you ww didn’t come out, spend money, and “build up the area”, I’d still be here just eating more wild game, skinning more and not listening to you complain about the traffic you have to drive through.

Govy is fun but trash to live in long term. No grocery stores, one gas station, one real bar, no food open late. Restaurants are pricy (and not really good). I’m in college and spend my summers at hood skiing a shit ton and making some money. I spent a summer living in the summits and didn’t like spending so much time in govy, however the skiing was awesome. The next summer I camped out of my outback for three months and had the best time of my life. I was camping with a great group of friends, skiing at least 5 days a week working 3-5 a week and loving life. Public park is fun no matter the setup or snow conditions because of the homies involved in it and the sick Tline park crew always setting up fun shit. I can spend a week hiking 3 different rails and have a great time. If you’re not into that go build some jumps on the glacier, bomb Palmer laps, or dig to ride at windells a few times to lap the rope tow (so many options how could you get bored??). It is a dirtbag lifestyle but for 2-3 months of the year I personally love it. Spending every afternoon at the lakes, or going on hikes. And getting the absolute best sunrises and sunsets almost every single day. Also touring hood in summer and camping on the glacier is all time. It’s hard to explain but damn waking up in the woods to a view of mama hood everyday rent free is hard to beat. No need to be a pro to enjoy the lifestyle of skiing everyday in one of the most unique places in the world.

OP forgot his tl;dr - something like hood is dope but you don't want to choose it as a ski bum destination

In other news.... Its spring time by dudes! Its time to make some weekend trips to Hood. Ill be out there in ~2 weeks

It's the same reason people live in their cars and ski all winter, thats their dream. Sure its frowned upon by society if you do it for 5+ years but I have met plenty of people with good careers now who bummed around various ski towns living in a van etc. Almost every time they call it the best years of their life. It's all about being young and chasing your passion, even if you aren't going pro. I worked at a restaurant all four years of highschool and the owner who was a very successful man lived in a van for 2 years of his life traveling and skiing. People will substitute out the accommodations of having a steady paying job and a daily shower for the ability to ski every day. It sure as hell sounds better than working in a office from the day you graduate till the day you retire.

retard alert

if you can't survive in a ski town it's probably because you're a burnout and/or you're not good with money.
