Why I'm not completely bummed about the Olympics

*this is fairly similar to Iberg's thread*

The reason I was so bummed (as many of you were) when Tom didn't make the Olympics was obviously due to his history in skiing and how he came up. The way Tom came up through skiing, his filming career and attitude about the sport makes him seem like a skier. Thinking about athletes like Goepper and Brown who are constantly training, have coaches all around them, never put out a segment other than at a park shoot. It just feels like a completely different sport to me. It would be a bummer if the world only got to see that side of skiing.

So thank god Henrik is going to the Olympics. A skier who is so incredibly knowledgable about the history of skiing, has so much respect for the pioneers. (I highly suggest you read Downey's article on him if you havent) Goes out and absolutely slays it with Phil filmingsome of the most creative skiing and truly inspiring the youth. So when Henrik is at the top of the course wearing ridiculously over sized clothing, using skis that actually go above his chin and not giving the slightest fuck about what anyone thinks and having the most fun out of any competitor, I will be so fucking hyped.

Just like skiing is supposed to be done

No doubt that I'll be hyped for Henrik in the Olympics (and apparently he's on the Swedish freeski team with Jesper Tjäder and Niklas Eriksson, who both absolutely SLAY IT). This also goes with ABM, too. He also has time outside competing to film a banger street segment with people like Stept and others. I hope a lot of people competing will encourage the youth to at least show the raw side of skiing, with concrete wall rides, handrails, and tree jibbing.

I also hope NBC showcases a lot of that footage to show the viewers about what freeskiing and freestyle snowboarding (if you're on NS and watch a little bit of X-Games Real Street) really is, but I know Bob Costas will be the ignorant person that he is and compare it to Jackass, also I'm sure as hell that NBC will probably not air a lot of the footage that Vice aired on NBC Sports Network last night (in case you didn't watch it, it'll be on YouTube on Tues., February 4th, I believe).

I agree with you OP, and I hope the public keeps their eyes peeled on the hype in Sochi about freeskiing.

Damn. He was listed as a part of the Swedish Freeskiing Team according to their website, however, so I assumed he was going to the Olympics.
