Why i don't like watching the x games

i guess i watch too many edits. i'm sure it is fun to compete as an athlete but the judging format that most riders conform to makes their riding look forced. lots of respect to riders not taking comps seriously and dropping the dope edits.

The reason i do'nt like watching x games.

Most of them threw close to the same exact run. With diff variations and stuff. And you can usually call what people are doing/who's going to win. And the ads, the ads kill me sometimes, some are sick, others are boring. like the navy ad was so boring the by the third time i saw it.

The announcers, are the only reason i watch, the best part of it all.

The reason I don't like watching the X-Games live is that living in Switzerland (Europe) you cannot view the live via ESPN. You have to go through Canal+ and those commentators are just obnoctious. They say a lot of wrong facts, mixed up

Jacob Wester with Phil Casabon in the second run, misnaming a lot of tricks, talking about the Frenchies and the superpipe every 5 minutes and the list goes on. I would have loved to listen to the ESPN commentators.I wont even bother to watch the superpipe just because of the commentators and the fact that there are actual french in there.

The announcing is the WORST part as of the last 5 years.

Also the courses for x used to be super creative. 4 stepdowns in a row is a fucking joke.

I don't like watching it cause it's not on any of the tv channels here so I gotta stream it on my laptop and it always cuts out for the runs I wanna see. Missed runs from henrik, schlopy, bdog, henshaw. Fucking bullshit. /rage

i was going to make this same thread last night...

yes, i agree that everybodys runs super sick/tight/whatever, but i got tired of seeing 3-4 dubs every run. i know its the xgames and the better the trick the higher the score. but i would have loved to see some creativity thrown in each run.

Its the same way in any sport, when edits are made and atheletes are practing they're trying to perfect their craft. Competing to win is all about the hardest, most technical tricks landed with most perfection. There are only so many tricks a rider can do, I personally think its pretty cool that most riders are throwing the same tricks. It puts so much more emphasis on the rails and different grab variations, combined with perfect landings...its all about mastering what you work so hard at and putting it on full display with millions of people watching. People forget the pressure side of things quite often in these extreme sports, the level of skill is so high now. That's what makes it a competition, and what also makes it awesome.

Yes. I almost smashed my computer when they mixed up Wester and Casabon until the score came out.

Charlie Bellemin is... ok. But this Fabrice Dutrouduc or whatever hes name is is such a dumbass.

He would always say "that dude could create surprise and take the win"... When it is Carlson, Brown or whoever has won tons of comps in the starting gate. Not to mention that they did not know Goepper at all, they had NEVER heard of him!

He doesn't know shit about skiing. He said 10 times that JF threw a sick party after winning Euro X and Kevin Rolland has 4 gold medals. I mean come on, only fanatics wake up at 4am to watch slope finals, why don't the take this in consideration? Any actual skier would be better than him.

For all these reasons and the one you mentioned I will probably not watch pipe.

And I hope Rolland doesn't podium at all. Not against Rolland or anything but to shut the mouth of Fabrice Dutrouduc.

Yeah competitions are really made for textbook ski style. That's why Henrik and Casabon didnt place; the commentators talk about "style" but not at all in the creative sense. Like last year when Henrik couldnt score at all on big air even though he was throwing down with the most style out of anyone. Either way though, I do enjoy watching the x-games haha and good skiing is good skiing.

I definitely agree with you. Honestly I don't think Henrik or Phil could compete with the 3-4 dubs per run though. Well Henrik could possibly, but I wouldn't even want him to throw 4 doubles. That's the whole reason I loved Phil's runs a couple years ago. Most guys were throwing doubles off everything and then Phil would take his run, and even though he never threw a double or really had the bag of tricks that it took to win gold, I was so glad he made it in. Just because his run and style were almost refreshing to watch. Especially when other guys were: dub after dub after dub, Phil would come in and show that he was a good skier and could make it to finals without even throwing double flips.

Just my take on it... but to X Games it's all about the money. Unfortunately a lot of people sitting in their living rooms watching X Games don't care about the style part of it. They want to see as many flips and spins as physically possible. I mean, except for us skiers who understand it.

He did a fakie to forward 720 in the hafpipe as we call it, thats 2 360s two full rotations taking off switch then landing his normal direction then he did a fakie to fakie 900 as we call it which is....

fuck xgames announcing.

lol trololol.

Seriously, get some new damn announceers. There is a thread on here, but posting this in here anyways.

4 step downs is a huge fucking joke. "Snow park technologies did a great job with the park this year, and they out do themselves everyyear" That is pure bullshit, they did a shit job. I mean really? A flat tube, a down box, a pole, a down rail, a flat box?, a like shipping container, and a walride.

Yeah man. A winning x games run will never be as able to be as good as that riders video segment. This is for the simple reason that in a movie, an athlete as virtually unlimited times to land a single trick. There is that thing where in the X games you have to land six tricks in a row too.

Oh come on, they tell those little white lies at every contest to keep influential people happy. Athletes do it all the time to get 5 seconds of airtime for their sponsors.

the only one who used a bit of creativity is wally with his wall ride, and its probably why he won because he only had 3 dubs(goepper had 4). i was kinda happy cause the judge finally gave some point for the creativity on the jib.(plus goepper did a dub 12 mute to japan, not sure of the trick but he did a grab combo).

Hated.

The announcers do not know what they are talking about, but i can understand that some 11 yr old in mississippi doesn't know what a switch un natural double 12 octo grab is. But still.

The course, was well, x-games. But i wasn't surprised at all.

I don't know, i mean i love watching skiers that i see on NS and vimeo on ESPN, i mean it's fucking awesome. But i just wish they could throw more then a dub 12 mute variations and switch dubs.

I could have sworn that almost everyone threw the same run.

what i've noticed lately with newschoolers...there ALWAYS has to be a problem with something....I wait every year for the x games and i'm so stoked about watching these guys throw down that I dont give a shit about the announcers or the course. i just imagine what those athletes might be feeling and it gives me goosebumps and gets me way more fuckin stoked to watch

in essence i really think that most of the people should just pull their heads out of their asses and appreciate that these athletes are putting everything they have into their runs and that we only get ONE slopestyle a year

so just be happy and stop complaining about the petty shit because i'm sure if you were the athlete that was being watched you wouldn't want all of your fans to be focusing on the stupid shit

end rant

that is a valid point sir. i just think that some people on here get caught up in the stupid shit and dont realize that they are watching some of the sickest athletes in our sport throw down

I agree with you then

Next year they should get rid of the rails and maker it 6 jumps in a row and mandatory doubles on each one.

disagree... but i would like to add that one of my favorite things to watch in Xgames is when, for whatever reason, the rider messes up near the top of the course and it's a throw away run.

Because the rest of the course, they throw down whatever fun trick comes to mind, or their favorite trick. I think it really tells you a lot about the rider, when they're just freeriding it to the bottom. Kind of like what they would do if they were hot lapping on the Mtn.

Remember in Tom's 2nd run he messed up and just floated that backie(or front flip cant remember), and then fucked around on the jumps? I love that shit.

lately? you must be new here. welcome to the internet, where everything sucks.

Captain Hindsight would do very well on the internet.

And I didn't say anything about hatin on skiers man. I just notice on here that no matter what the subject there always has to be a problem even when it comes to the fucking x games

ye this year xgames was like watching 9999th episode of Sex In The City. Boring as fuck, and you knew whats gonna happen.

This.

I fucking loved watching Schlopy and Wamsticks after they messed up. Seeing a huge laid out backie and superman front over a 70 footer was a nice break from the dubfest.

I view the X-Games the same as a monster truck rally, it's all just a big ass hype event for people that don't know shit all about what they are looking at. The average college bro thrives on watching the X-Games for tons of cool flips and listening to commentators call features things like "Wall Street" so they can tell their bros about it over a game of beer pong.

That said I think I would ski the exact same way if I was skiing in the X-Games. They are trying to make some money, it's not their fault.
