Why doesn't Apple...

make a computer that you can write on like those Toshiba notebooks.. and have that mouse-pen thing..

if the macbook pros did that.. I would upgrade right this second.

Do you think they ever will, or should I quit hoping?

Did I mention I saw Dragonforce the other day and it was one of the best shows I've ever witnessed? well, I did.

^^ How do you know they're working on it?

They are cool for taking notes in a chemistry class..where you have to draw structures and stuff like that...

I'd love one.

a tablet pc is a normal computer, just if you have a talent for drawing like i8van a tablet would let you do some funky shit that you cant do with a mouse or touch pad.

I've used photoshop on both tablet PCs, and wacom tablets. Its much easier to draw with a Wacom tablet in my opinion. Using photoshop on the tablet screen thing sucks.

Not to mention the pretty serious rewrite of OSX that it would take to make a touchscreen laptop like you're talking about possible. But other than that, and designing a form factor that doesn't completely suck like all tablets I've seen so far, ya, making a tablet laptop would be easy for Apple.

The hard part is finding a market for it. It might be cool, but who'd buy it? Why not just buy a Wacom/similar tablet device? Tablets PCs are barely used.

They wouldn't have to rewrite much, just make the screen sensitive, and make mouse follow the contact points. All the programs would still work the same. But if apple did it then expect their tablets to cost twice as much as tablet pc's.

apple has said over the years that they don't think the tablet market is big enough (or expanding enough) to justify releasing a tablet form factor. if you look at how big a failure other tablets have been (let's face it, you don't see all that many out there - i've seen one in the past 3 years). it's highly doubtful they'll come out with one. i do remember seeing a company that would take ibooks and convert them into tablets for a fee, but that project went under a while ago.

I've actually noticed a lot of people in my school with them. I think that the art school here is required to get them actually. I'm not sure though. Apple also has patents for a tablet mac but its probably just so someone else can't take the idea.

One of my friends has a Wacom tablet and it is so sick for editing photos, drawing, and stuff like that. Apple probably is developing one because they included Inkwell with OS X Tiger.

yea i guess ill give u that. but my friend has a drawing tablet that is pretty portable so its not that much of a hassle. for me i just wouldnt buy one because i wouldnt have enough use for it and i can definitely see how apple doesnt think there is enough market for it... if thats the case for why they arent making one. but i have actually heard rumors that they were developing one... who knows.

Apple's palm pilot that comes out wil be liek that.....they ahve taken it off production numerous times though.  Cuzz way back int eh day they had a tablet labtop that completley bombed. So they are taking thier time getting it out and making sure it is done right.

There are tools that you can buy separately to "write" by hand. Some of the computers in my college's library have them.

I don't understand the point of them. Would you use it to draw a little sketch and then share it with all your buddies?
