Why does it suck

I've been using my gopro for a while and I can't get the footage to come out looking nice. I have the good ole hd hero, and I usually film in 720p 60 fps. Just basic POV stuff, whenever I'm doing something cool.

My question is.. How do I get the footage to actually look nice when I put it on youtube?

I edit on a mac, I used to use final cut pro 7, and lately ive just been using imovie cuz its quick n easy. Though regardless of which I use, my hd footage comes out very pixelated. It's irritating cuz before editing my clips are clear as day and look very nice.

I'm not super techy so maybe it's compression, aspect ratio within the editor, or i dunno honestly.

Side note, my buddy called me yesterday (he as the 3 black version) and is having the same problem. Any tech nerds out there your help is deeply appreciated!!

Take it easy!

Thanks

Check to make sure your gopro is not actualy a toaster. If its a toaster i can help you, if not youre sol.

Find a way to stabilize the camera and use color correction. GoPro's editing software works pretty good for me.

I could tell you but my Go pro fell off of my helmet on a powder day at a resort I had never been to...

Does it look bad in FCP or only when you export it? Or not until you put it on YouTube?

When you're looking at the raw video files on your computer, playing them in Quicktime, how do those look?

It looks fine when played raw! Even okayish in the editor but its after exporting that it looks bad. Ive followed all the tutorials out there. Its so frustrating

I'm not familiar with FCP so I won't be much help, but at least we know the problem isn't your gopro. I edit in premiere and I have to make sure the timeline settings and export settings match the properties of the raw video, in terms of frame rate, size, etc. Something about how you're setting up your project in FCP is causing you trouble.

Mods should move this to M&A. You'll get more and better answers there.

What tutorials are you using? I'm sure you can find one involving setting up all this stuff right.
