Why does black history month exist?

like i said, affirmative action has its flaws, but the alternative would be like we were still in the 60's if not worse.

we were talking about this in class the other day how they have a Miss Black America contest, but no Miss White America Contest, and how there is BET, but no WET, its just interesting to see different peoples views on this subject.
 
i said almost. the vast vast majority.

granted i also dont exactly spend a lot of time studying that hahaha, so its all based on random things ive seen
 
i mean im just saying though, is it racist to have a miss black america? or BET? i havent read any of the thread so my apologies if its been discussed already. would it be racist if there was a WET?
 
in my opinion at least, definitely not miss black america. im sure theres beauty pageants for other nationalities/cultures too, i dont see that as discriminatory at all.

i dont see BET as it either. every channel is WET. seriously.

but most of this has already been covered.
 
I know I got released this summer from my job this summer cause of being paid too much cause I knew how to weld and properly use a chainsaw. Moronic hippy white guys stayed that didn't know how to turn on a pressure washer cause he got paid less. REVERSE AFFIRMATIVE ACTION!!!
 
you let whoever is hiring decided who is most qualified for the job. fuck bias tests, institutions blah blah blah whoever is best for the job should get it.
 
Pretty sure only people from Quebec are separatists, actually only 49% of Quebec as was proven in the last vote. And nobody but people from Quebec give a fuck about that, and nobody in the rest of Canada gives a fuck about Quebec. You silly panda.
 
I think it is easier to just say no one gives a fuck about Quebec really. Silly Hobbit, you don't wear shoes.
 
This is a very small place but at the place I worked at for the City to decide who the welders were they gave us a chart and told us to do all the welds on it. Can't do that for every job though I guess.
 
there are soo many things wrong with this thread. my though:

1. We're all racist, at least a little bit, its human nature to pre judge, and pre judging someone based on their race is considered racism. I dont understand how someone can say "I have black friends I'm not racist." No that is illogical and stupid. I mean look at the presidency, we elected someone who is half black, and all of a sudden we are a nation of equality? What about the Native Americans, Persians, Asians, Latins, and any other race?

2. A little scenario that may reveal why Affirmative action can be considered a good idea, (i dont want to voice my opinion cause I dont want to get flamed by 10 year olds, just playing devils advocate). Lets say a white guy and a black guy are applying for the same job. The white guy gets it because his family is wealthier and more connected. Well back in the day the white kids family could have become more well connected because his family had enslaved or taken advantage of black people, while the black persons ancestors could be on the other end of a similar scenario.

3. The reason there is a black history month is because black leaders had the balls to stand up and say they wanted black history to be recognized. We wouldn't have a nation today if it wasnt for the business that made their keep off of their enslaved workers. We wouldn't be able to sit in school, and read books written by educated white men, about brave white men, if it wasnt for the hard working black men.

hopefully that makes sense, Im not that good at verbalizing my ideas. I dont think this is the forum to be discussing race issues considering the majority of us are probably upper/middle class white kids. Dont flip out if you aren't I know there are other types of kids out there. Just think, almost everyone at the mountain is white, and skiings not a cheap sport so alot of the kids who are as dedicated as NewSchoolers are probably have a steady flow of cash to fuel their skiing, or they work their asses off, and props to the kids who work their asses off

even for my measly little government job we have to answer if we are white, Hispanic, black whatever. thankyou quota's.

 
13% of this nation is black. maybe 5% of the girls in the photo are black. so only a 8% difference.

i see a few black girls in there though but for the most part black girls don't give a shit about being in pageants though
 
I had a black friend all through elementary school. Really close even went to his dads 20 year sober party where I was the only white kid there.

Then that son of a bitch stole my Pokemon cards.
