Why do you think Heroin use is making a big comeback?

I friend of mine is a professor at University of Denver. School officials were recently informed by the police that Evans Avenue between Broadway and Colorado Blvd. has recently become the place where the most heroin deals happen in the state. Apparently it happens during rush hour traffic. People pull up and grab a balloon on their way to and from work.

"I'll try anything except Heroin" was a pretty commonly expressed phrase, during my college days.

The only things I ingest now are vitamins and supplements, and alcohol in moderation. My experience with the drug culture is extremely outdated. So seriously, why do you guys think that people are now messing with heroin again?
 
Kids pop pills because they're fun, easy to get, and easy to get away with. They start popping every day and it gets expensive, but they're hooked. Someone offers H at like 5 bucks a bag and they think "hey this will be great, I'll get higher off less and spend less money". They keep doing H to keep from getting dopesick and can't stop, and then their friends start doing H because it's around. I've been watching it happen the last couple months, shit is crazy.
 
Exactly this. People think the Oxis aren't bad because you can get them from a doctor. Then they can't afford the scripts anymore and along comes heroin.
 
Totally, the seattle times did a thing on why heroin use is up, and the UW did a study. The study showed that opiate prescriptions were down but as the prescriptions went down heroin use soared.

“I think when we reined in opiate prescribing, it dried up the market for diverted prescription pharmaceuticals, and the people who were abusing prescription pharmaceuticals switched over to heroin,” (Seattle Times)

The scripts are harder to get for opiats so, people instead use heroin. One of my friends has gone off the deep end and he is seen stumbling around town sometimes high on heroin. Its fucked. You can also get that black tar for so much cheaper than prescription opiates so people are turning to those instead of prescription meds.
 
I don't know why but it's sad to see kids as young as 14 or 15 on heroin. I left New York right after things kind of exploded. I know some kids in High School who went to rehab for heroin and another kid nodded off while he was driving and died. Heroin is shitty and I wish nobody ever took it.

I think heroin comes about when drugs are generally prevalent. I blame prescription drugs. They are over perscribed and we fail to understand their instrumental effects. If you already taken phentanyl, xanax, tripple-Cs, adderall, and find yourself slightly dependent on any one of these drugs to feel happy, then why wouldn't you try heroin? You're probably not going to iv heroin at first. You might try just one line to see what its like.
 
In maine, reason is that is now cheaper than pills as the price of pills has risen. There's been plenty of press about it lately.
 
i know a few people in breck who got hooked on it. shits fuck and i will never understand why anyone would do it.
 
You guys have to realize though, in a vacuum, non-intravenous heroin use could be less detrimental than even alcohol use. Heroin has never proven to be neurotoxic, like alcohol, amphetamines, and other stimulants, and is not toxic to any other organs, like alcohol and other drugs are to the liver.

The reason it's so fucked is because of its addictive qualities. Plunging a needle into your skin and veins over and over, and living the destitute lifestyle of an intravenous addict is what will kill you. These people forsake eating for this stuff, literally. Contract horrible things from shared/dirty needles.

If you have some self control you can very occasionally abuse it without a needle, like any other opiate, and be relatively fine.

Then you have crack and meth, which I think are more destructive than any other drugs out. they have the extreme addictive qualities of heroin AND are very neurotoxic.

I still think it's fucked though, people go way too far with this shit.
 
the shit they cut it with can't be good for you though, as well as the fact that very few people who would try it are likely to say after one go, "nope! never again, i don't care how much i enjoyed it"
 
its not making a comeback. it has always been there. it just has not gotten as much attention until recently. smh @ newschoolers ignorance of drug use. oh wait, that is probably a good thing

My cousin started abusing pills like oxy a few years ago and and OD'd on oxy and other shit multiple times. When she couldn't get oxy anymore she started using heroin, got addicted and her life went to shit. She got desperate to get her fix and stole a bunch of our grandmothers jewelry and other things. My grandmother chose to charge her or whatever so she could try to save her granddaughter and get her heirlooms back. My cousin went to jail and we didn't here from her for a few months then somehow she posted bail and we never heard anything about her other than that she was a wanted fugitive and jumped bail. A year or so later she was found dead on the side of a road. What happened was a creepy older man bailed her out and gave her drugs so she would stay with him and he furthered her addiction and she couldn't leave. When she tried to escape from his house on a bike, he ran her over with his car and she died. Heroin ruins lives.
 
Heroin's the bomb. I've been on that brown cobra shit for weeks now and it just blows my fucking mind. I bet it'll do wonders for skiing, havent tried it, might stomp triple.
 
free basing is the same as chasing the dragon - smoking. and snorting is about as popular as smoking is

snorting is just called snorting or insufflation

heroin is making a come back because its cheap and people love doing drugs. at least before the habit starts

plus oxys and shit, but not getting into an argument about that one. btw, opana is still around, just not the IR stop signs that were so popular
 
I hadn't heard of this trend, but that definitely sucks.

What's being described in Denver is that these are business professionals or at least people who have 9 to 5 type jobs. That's a new trend. H always had a following in the entertainment world, but this sounds like a bunch of banker types are tying off after work. I guess they could be smoking it. That's kind of what I was wondering.

Shooting up seems a little too hard core for this new group of Heroin users. I mean I guess it would be easier to cover up track marks if you have to wear a business suit, but I'm guessing that there is a new or improved method of smoking it, that is perceived to be more hip.
 
i'll tell you exactly why heroin is blowing up. it's because the pill scene is becoming more and more expensive. 6-10 years ago, oxy was EVERYWHERE for as little as $.20/mg. Over the last few years, states and the feds have been cracking down on docs with liberal script pads, supply has plummeted, and prices have skyrocketed. Now that same oxy that you could snatch up for a couple of bucks a few years ago costs you $1/mg and maybe even more.

well, eventually people begin to realize that heroin is ultimately the same damn thing that you get in pill form, only MUCH stronger....and MUCH cheaper. i could buy one Roxi 30 that isn't even going to "get my sick off" for $30, or I could buy 3 bags of dope for $30 and get high as a fucking kite. You do the math. I've been watching it happen and have been calling it the entire time. Unfortunately, we haven't seen the peak of the heroin explosion in this country. The worst is yet to come and there's nothing you can do to stop it.

Funny that a lot of this has coincided with our time in Afghanistan....ya know, one of the major heroin producing hubs in the world. We take over...heroin trade explodes. Hmmmm...

 
Yeah back in the day when some red rock opium came around I just smoked that shit off foil.

It was fucking bomb. Dope sickess sucked but thats it.
 
Kids at my school wil blow perch 30's in the bathroom during lunch, but if you ask them about getting smacked up, they'll look at you disgusted and call you a scumbag. H is fun, but entirely not worth it, Ive bumped a couple lines but never any more then that, if you're really fixing for an opioid high find something other then heroin, or better yet just don't even do it.
 
Fentanyl after surgery. I went to sleep in the car ride home. They gave me one more dose of iv fentanyl as I went out the door. I didn't really sleep, but I got weird dreams wherein the doctor was sawing my arm off at the shoulder because it got infected. Weird shit like that. I don't know if this is what nodding off is like because I didn't feel euphoric at all. I was actually in a lot of pain and I think that took away from any potential euphoria. They gave me a bunch of percs after that and I didn't really like them. They made me itchy, constipated, and only marginally decreased the pain (they let me walk though). Worst of all, the withdraw. That was my first opiate experience and it will be my last opiate experience. I have no interest in using them recreationally or for pain relief. I prefer Ibuprofen and edibles for intense physical pain. At least those two won't lower your pain tolerance like opiates do

yeah, there's no such thing as that. percocet (oxycodone/apap) only comes in 5, 7.5 and 10 mg. anything higher than that is just straight oxy - no apap.
 
They got rid of opanas? that sucks. I take 15 mg roxies for my back and hip and they work great. I've broken so many bones and torn up so much shit playing sports and skating/skiing/partying that it's starting to catch up with me.

i would probably rate it a pretty close tie between iv hayron, dilaudid, & morphine for first place. i'd place methadone in 2nd place. smoked fentanyl in 3rd. IM morphine in 4th. Insufflated oxy 5th.
