Why do small mountains hate good skiers

i ski most of my 35 or so day season out west but a solid 5 of those days are at the small mountains near dc. every fucking time i go skiing around hear i get yelled at by countless gapers, jerries, and the like for fucking skiing. I ski fast, i always have skied fast, i don't like going slow, and i cant have fun crawling down a mountain. yet every time i go i always get the same talking to by patrollers "i get that you are a good skier but you need to slow down, you are making people nervous" i am sorry but i don't give half a fuck if i make some gapers nervous i payed your shitty mountain 75 dollars to ski so i am going to ski how i like. fast a shit, in total control, sending jumps huge and ripping the shit out of your mosquito bite of a mountain.

fuck you liberty and whitetail

rant over

I ski at roundtop which is owned by the same people of liberty and whitetail. IMO, the mountains around here all so small that gapers end up stranded on everytrail and they are just so many that ski patrols freaks out at people who ski too fast and could possibly cause another gaper to get injured. Just my opnion

Old people get jealous because they can't ski like they used too, so they call out the younger rippers at my hill.

I get so much shit for riding twin-tips, its unreal. People just can't appreciate the sport at these small hills.

As long as you're skiing in control, they can go fuck themselves. I'm tired of getting yelled at for going like 35-40mph while in total control and then there are gapers straightlining the hill in a pizza who look like they're about to get rekt. It's just dumb.

Next time ski faster and then beat them to the bottom. They'll never catch up cause they're pussies hehehe.

Let me guess you're always on a green or blue run when you get yelled at.

Irrelevant. As long as you're:

Skiing in control

Not posing a threat to other people

Not skiing too fast for conditions (Crowds of gapers, fog, etc)

Not in a slow zone

Then you should not be yelled at for skiing fast.

But it should be added that these are often trademarks of green/blue slopes.

Id say irrelevant on blue slopes, but not green especially if its crowded.

Learning to ski when people are ripping by you can be sketchy.

I can understand not speeding through a green/blue/anywhere when it's crowded. But on a weekday when no one is around( east coast week days are DEAD compared to out west) then it shouldn't be a problem. But even when no one is around the yellow jackets here are assholes. If you aren't causing danger on anyone else, it shouldn't matter how fast you are going. You know?

I dunno. I grew up on 2-3-4 run ski hills out on the prairies and people seem to be pretty stoked and curious when I show up and have massive, rockered pow skis (Live Life 2's and then New Life's used to be my daily driver's) or cruising down the hill switch. As long as you're in control, everyone is pretty chill and it's fun talking with farmers about big skis and skiing backwards.

Prairie hills are small, but the people are awesome.

I dont understand the US mentality to policing how you ski. In europe there is no such thing as yellow jackets and ski partol have far better things to be doing than telling people to slow down. I dont know if its the racing history of europe that people going fast is just accepted but i've never been told by anybody or seen anybody being told to slow down. sure we have slow signs but theyre usually on the entrances to lifts.

They look at you like your from the future

I rip down Stratton at like 50+ easily everyday (have been clocked maxed otu at 72 down standard) and no one gives a shit

That's why I never go to whitetail… roundtop is by far the best with less gapers and the best park out of three… and Liberty just depends on the day you go

What sucks is when these mountins groom the shit out of every square foot of white that they see. Powder a day after a storm? Nope. Any moguls, even a single line off the side of some bum fuck trail in the spring? Nope. It's sad when you need to drive twice as far to ski the 2 most natural elements of the sport. Idk what's up with the grooming fetishes of some mountains. I swear if I whipped out my cack and splooged off the chairlift they'd fire up the cats if it looked a little lumpy

Even more reasons that the US ski hills (ESPECIALLY out east) need to take notes from the europeans

My home mountain is Roundtop which is owned by the same group at whitetail and liberty and definitely feel you on this. Cant go a day without being nagged at by ski patrol, always playing it too safe when skiing is already an inherently dangerous sport. What really grinds my gears about those mountains is the no invert policy. If you are skilled enough to do flips then you should be allowed to progress at your own rate which is what makes skiing fun. Threw a backflip once and ski patrol said I was basically showing the beginners (gapers) that backflips were easy to throw and that I would be responsible for someone getting hurt if they tried one because I made it look easy. Absolutely preposterous.

Agreed... I won't even touch the resorts that are within an hour or so near me they are just boring and over priced for what you get.

Moguls is a dying aspect of skiing I think. The vast majority ofpeople don't even like to attempt them anymore. I love ripping them once in a while its a great leg burner and a nice challenge...plus you look like a boss when you fly through them

Agree, I ski in mass most of the time and only have gotten yelled at once in my years of skiing there, a week in whis last season and got yelled at almost 2-3 times a day for not even skiing that fast, my friend almost got his pass pulled the ones in whis are awful even compared to some of the colorado resorts.

For sure. It's so frustrating because I love skiing moguls. Sometimes I wish I could go back to the 90s cheese when the bump scenes were epic

I get yelled at for skiing switch down groomers, because I'm "not in control," and also for doing 180s off natural drops on the groomers.

How dare you try to have fun while skiing. Don't you know thats not allowed?

It might create an "intimidating atmosphere" for all the Chicago gapers and racers (I'm in SE WI)

Yep, happens to me all the time at Sunday River, ME. They opened up the big park 3 weeks ago and the only access was by skiing down a green and carving up to get into the top of the park. I probably got stopped 4 or 5 times in one day just for skiing slightly faster than the crowds. I'd steer as far away from other skiers as possible to avoid any valid accusations of getting in anyones way or scaring people, but they were still all over you. Most of the times I was stopped the patrollers were really chill about it but they really shouldn't have been stopping people there. We had to have speed to get up into the park.

TLDR; Ski fast and scare people - hoodcrew

Damn, that sucks. When I skied there (almost everyday a few seasons ago) that never happened. At least its patrollers and not yellow jackets, patrollers seem to be far more reasonable and understanding (unless they're old)

loved the rant, but lets be honest, about how "big" and "fast" can you even go on the east coast other than in NH or VT? regardless, screw em, if youre getting RAD thats all that matters bro.

SHRED FOR SHANE

usually small mountains are shitty at following through with threats. My friends and I enjoy pushing boarders off rails when necessary or ollieing over douchey downhill riders that sit in the middle of the hill.

Wait so you've skied 35 days and you paid 75 dollars for a lift ticket?

Invest in a season pass op, thats $2600+ dollars

haha nah i have an epic pass for the majority of my season out west but when i am home i either ski free as per connections or i have to pay 75 dollars 2 or 3 times a year its nbd

Try to hit 88 mph an see what happens. You might need some plutonium and a flux capacitor, but some full blast gansta rap and a y rail should suffice.

clearly you don't get it

if you're not zipperlining bumps at those hills you're just another gaper who thinks straighlining a 20 degree slope makes a badass.

Do you ski out west? You haven't made that clear.

I ski at an even smaller hill than you and its owned by vail and ive never been yelled at for going fast
