Why do Bikes think they own the street

So today I was driving home and im like two blocks away from my house. I have to make a right turn which i do at about 25 mph since i love going around curves as fast as possible. So i make the turn and there is a entrance to the street from a convenience store and all of sudden the college student on a bike comes flying out of the driveway. I slam on the brakes and swerve into the on coming traffic. I stop about 2 inches from a car waiting at the red light and the bike slams into my passenger side door and puts a small dent in my car door. Then the biker has the balls to start swearing at me as he rolls his bike away from my car. He just kept rambling on about how i should slow down since i was going over the speed limit(i was going 25...pretty sure that is the speed limit!!!!)I just stared at him and then floored throttle and peeled out of there leaving rub from where i started sliding when i slammed on the brakes and then 50 feet more after that.
END RANT!

As a competitive cyclist and a bike store employee, perhaps you should not go around curbs as fast as possible? some bikers are too out there and think they do own the road but cars don't own the road either we need to share it so we all can prosper!

Cooperation from both drivers and bikers is the backbone of a shared roadway. A combination of keeping an eye out, being respectful, and knowing how to watch your own ass is essential for safety when it comes to shit like this.

Cause bikers are fucking bad ass and they slay all and if your to much of a newb to know it then GTFO!!!! /sarcasm.It's not every bikers mentality dude.

I dont have a problem sharing the road...i just have a problem with them flying out of a parking lot and failing to look if there is traffic coming! I am a biker too, when i live in switzerland i dont have a car and bike everywhere!

i fucking hate bikers. I was driving home today and there was a pack of these flaming homos who refused to move from the middle of the goddamn road. Next time im creeping up to them as close as possible and laying on the horn. They are inconsiderate fucks. There isnt many more things that fuels road rage more than stupid fucking bikers.

Didn't really make a whole lot of sense, but when you are telling us how you go around curves as fast as possible, that leads me to believe it was all, if not, most of your fault. Bikes are to be treated in the same manner a car would be treated. I used to cruise around town all the time on my bike and more than enough times it was cars that did not share the road, while I was well in the bike lane obeying traffic laws.

No they are no supposed to operate like any other vehicle....bikes can not always obey the posted minimum speed limit or even attempt to stay close to the posted speed limit. Plus bikes are not allowed on the interstate!!!!

I dont have a problem with bikers at all...they just need to obey laws like everyone else...that is why im so pissed off. Plus I almost caused a 2 car accident because a biker decided he wanted to pull out of a parking lot in front of me and go into the other lane going the opposite direction.

na i wouldnt actually do that, and bikers arent flaming homos. They just really piss me off sometimes. Today was just real bad i was deliverying my pizzas and they were slowing me down doing about 20 in a 40 in the middle of the road. They have NO right to do that. And for the record i could never bike competively and i respect them a ton. Just that select few i want to run over.

Yo, you are reacting a little to harshly, bikes have the right to bike on the road as long as they dont break traffic laws

Maybe you shouldnt drive like your a rally car driver, doing a 25mph turn into a parking lot. The whole thing wasnt your fault but you should probably pay attention too.

read 2 posts above you. i wasnt being serious more like venting my intense road rage. i didnt get tipped cuz for prolly 2 miles i was stuck behind these dudes.

I was in control of my car....i did avoid the accident, the reason i take curves fast is that i love drive and racing cars, and take a curve at 25 miles per hour isnt fast, however the bicycle flying out the the parking lot at about 15-20 miles per hour with out looking for on coming traffic is not on control or obeying traffic laws.

You drive like a prick, and you have to admit it. There is a time and place for driving and that place is not full of pedestrians, bikers, moms and old people carrying groceries. You don't think you are breaking laws --and you aren't really-- but you need to use discretion when you are hunting for curves.

Take a step back and look at this with some maturity.

Duh, people posted in here like we're talkin bout motor bikes.People around where i live (Finger Lakes, NY) road bike a lot. They are over the white line and all fucking over the place. My dad was a pretty big road cyclist and he says that a good rider should be on the white line at all times or over to the left. 2 'er 3 cyclists have died this year near me. It's a great sport but some people have no idea about etiquette and things like that. It goes for cars too. Don't pull out infront of a cyclist when they are going up a hill and they have to stop or slow down killing all there momentum. Jeez. That pisses me off when i see people do that.

what kind of road could you possibly be driving on that you couldn't get around a pack of bikers for 2 miles. the busiest, most narrow road in the world?

In my situation it wasnt a cyclist...it was some college kid who was on a bike from the 1980s...i respect cyclist...not college kids going to a convenience store to get junk food and alcohol and pulling out of the parking assuming every car while move out of their way.

That was my only place to go cause if i had kept going i would have hit the college kid on the bike, im try to tell everyone that he FLEW out of the parking lot...it wasnt like he slowly pedaled out of the parking lot.

You have a driver's license, yet you do not know very simple road rules. This is why we need stricter driving tests in America. I just finished my Driver's Ed. course and there was a whole section about bicycles. One of the first things it talked about, was how a bicycle should be treated no differently than any other motorized vehicle. There are cars that travel down roads in my town going 30 instead of 35, does that mean they should not be allowed to drive? Bikes are not allowed on the interstate for various safety reasons. When cars and trucks are traveling at 60+mph and you are in the bike lane, chances are, the wind generated from these trucks/cars could very easily knock a cyclist down or pull them into the middle of the road.

Turning 25 into a parking lot is EXTREMELY unacceptable. It might not seem too fast, but it is 1/4 of 100mph. Regardless of if you like to race cars or not, it is still unacceptable to pretend to race where there are pedestrians and other vehicles.

THEN HE'S A DUMBASS. So don't label him a "biker" then say he's not a "biker" and hate on a whole group cause of one dumbass.

I wasn't turing into the parking lot...i was turning from 1 street to another where both streets had a speed limit of 35...i think taking the corner at 25 is acceptable. I wasn't pretending to race...im not a street racer...i used to race go carts back in the day. There were no ppedestrians, where did you get this piece of information?!?!

I mean if he's a dumbass an gonna ride out in his Bro'd out gear right in front of you then paste his ass. But i see both sides here.

There was a traffic light, it must have been a 90 degree turn, taking it at 25 does not seem acceptable. In an earlier argument you said you like going fast because you like to race/drive cars, pretty sure that is a satisfactory claim that you were in fact pretending to race, or that racing influenced your driving on public roads. So you went around a turn too fast, there were no pedestrians. So you mean to tell me, that you knew what was around the corner well before you made the turn? If not, it is VERY unacceptable to take a turn too fast when you do not know if fido is going to run out into the street, or if 5 year old Jimmy is going to run across the street to get the football.

you have a point but the biker is still totally at fault imo. imagine if you were going down a street at the speed limit and a kid just flies out of his driveway, it is entirely his fault i think. even if you are in control of your car, depending on where he comes out sometimes you just wouldnt have any time to do anything to avoid him. same thing kinda with the turn (which i do agree he should have taken slower) if the biker was actually looking he should have been able to see the car and stop.

It depends on what car you are driving...it you are driving at Hummer H1 25 miles per hour is out of the question...but if you are driving a ferrari 25 miles is like taking that corner at 5 miles per hour in that hummer.

LOOK all im asking is that people on bicycles share the road and obey traffic laws, sometimes i just feel that bikes dont reciprocate in the sharing part!

the worst thing about this thread is all of the generalizations like this.
there are thousands of ordinary bikers that use their heads and thousands of cyclists that don't.

even as a biker i can totally see where you're coming from. i try my best to obey traffic laws and stay out of the way but i know that a lot of bikers disregard everyone and everything around them.
you just have to keep in mind that we aren't all like that.
and sorry for the dub post

I can go 60 around a turn on the road to my resort, but I still don't know what is around the corner. Even if you can take the turn really well, you still don't know what is around the turn, that is why you take it slowly.

I am not sharing 55mph highways that lack shoulders with a bunch of tight pantsed cyclists. They need to ride their bikes places where the road is wide and the speed limit is low. I couldn't pass one yesterday because it was on a crappy stretch of highway without a shoulder and there was constant oncoming traffic. The speed limit was 55, bitch needed to go find a different road.
