Why did you chose skiing?

Been wondering this for a while. Why did you chose to be a skier, when your age group is dominated by snowboarders? Did you grow up a skier and then discovered twin tips? Did you just feel like going against the grain? Personally, I started snowboarding when I was 10, but eventually I realized that all of the tricks are the same, just with different twists on them. So I decided to be a skier, I love how there are sooooo many more tricks that you can do, and unlike snowboarding, their actually a challenge to learn. I know there has probably been threads like this before, but I wanna know your story, why are you a skier?

my first time skiing i was 7 and just visiting the US before moving (from peru) so i obviously rented and everything, i just skiid with lessons or watever and then later on took it to freeskiing

When I was eight or so, I started begging my dad to take me skiing (I guess I wanted to ski instead of snowboard because he was a skier) when he finally did, I fell in love with it. So after three or four seasons he got me my own pair of used skis which just happened to be first generation JF Cusson 1080s. As dumb as this sounds, I had no idea they were twin tips. So, anyway, first ski club trip this season my snowboarding friend saw me carrying them into the lodge and says, "Yo man, you got them trick skis? Sick" I just kinda gave him a confused look and said yeah..... And then I don't remember what really happened after that, but here I am.

at 3 or 4 i was a little ass skier and skied with my mom. At 7 i didn't want to ski with her so i started snowboarding to get away from her. I got bored with snowboarding last year and tried to convince my parents to let me buy some invaders. That didn't work so this year i went to the shop and bought some twins and my parents were pissed but they've figured out that i'm actaully not a bad skier and i like it and think its more of a challenge than snowboarding.

at 4 years old my parents forced me on skis (well, not really, but basicly). tried the snowboarding thing out once or twice as a kid but kept the skis.

i think now, my parents regret showing me skiing and wish i would do something with my life. oh well, sucks for them.

i started skiing when i was like 1. my dad would hold me up on plastic skis i had. my dad loved skiing and wanted me to learn as early as possible. i was really good but i lived in jersey. i tried boarding a few times but its not as fun and the whole style, the community, the tricks arent as cool as freesking.

Started skiing at 2. Both parents love skiing and have been for 30+ years. I started to get into tricks and bought twin tips. I still try boarding occasionally, but I love moguls too much.

starting skiing in first grade loved it skied until sixth grade snowboarded until sophmore year of highschool then got bored and started skiing again and have never looked back. You can just go bigger and faster on skis and the tricks are better so I have never looked back. Booo ya

My uncle skis. He gave me a lesson when I was like 7 or 8 and then this year I picked it up again. I just hate snowboarding, too many kids that say they can do all kinds of shit but can't. Plus not a lot of kids in my school do it so when I do find someone that does it too, its great cause its a lot better to go with 2 or 3 friends that ski then with 8 or 9 other people.

First started when I was 8/9 and then got twin tips last year. I have tried snowboarding but didn't enjoy it, so I have stuck with skiing.

yeah first time on skis i was three and i have never got off them since.. unless you count the 4 years of snowbladin i didi.. but skier 4lyfe.. but what funny that is i learned to tallywhack before i could downhill..

well when i was 18 months old my parents got me my first skis, and ive just always had fun skiing and never wanted to try anything different, then i started riding the park 2 years ago once just going down the hill got boring and its like every day im out skiing is totally different from the last one and it never gets boring

i started skiing when i was 2 and my entire family is really into skiing i raced until i was 11 tried park bought twin tips never went back

my dad brought me to some hill a couple times then we were at a shop and there was a snowboard on one rack and a set of skis on another and he said so what do ya wanna do ski or board? and i just said ski cause that was the first choice he gave me..now that i look back on that when i was 6..it was a great choice

grew up skiing, learned to board and it sucked ass, so i styaed with skiing and started freestyle cause one of my skiing buddies had taken a freestyle course. i had been jumping all my life according to my rents

i got bored with snowboarding, and alot of my freinds were skiing, so i switch with a kid for a day. and became hooked.

i didnt choose skiing, it chose me.. ha! nah but really, most of my friends were borders and i just didnt really feel like doin it just to follow a trend, so i kept skiing and then discovered twins. by far my greatest discovery!

My entire family skied religiously in Ukraine, basically straight ice slopes without grooming. Likely why i got my first twins last year since i was made to focus so much on technique of regular skiing

my mom and dad took me skiing when i was like 4 or 5 and i went out all most every year from then on throught atlest 2 or 3 times a year then in 2004 2005 i when out alot more . and in 2005 and 2006 i bought a cheep pair of twins ( not true twins but good enouf) when out every weekend and some times during the week and now in 2006 2007 i got a pair of ar5s and i got out at lest 4 to 5 times a week . long story short i just got hooked . and i just started freestyle in 2005 2006.

i started skiing when i was real young but didnt go too often, a few years ago i dicovered twin tips and started skiing alot

learned to ski at like 12, twin tips came out a few years later and then there was no reason to switch to boarding, if twins took longer to come out, i would prob be boarding right now lol

i was young (like 5 or 6) and my family visited some friends at bretton woods. i initially wanted to try snowboarding but i decided to ski beacuse i was told it was easier to learn. so now im a skiier and have never looked back.

My dad skis... So he took me up when I was about 8 and I learned to ski. At the time all my friends skiied also but most of the switched to snowboarding a couple years later. I never really wanted to go back to being a complete beginner so I stuck with skiing. I always say I'm going to try snowboarding just for shits and giggles but I have never gotten around to it.

i skied since i was 2 then i wanted to snowboard at like age 11, my dad said i had to master skiing and wasnt allowed, so i eventually found twintips and i woudlnt have it any other way

i had no clue snowboarding existed when i started. my local hill didn't allow it until about 7 years back. so when my dad brought me out at age 4 there wasn't another choice. then when i was around 10 i figured stick with what i'm good at

haha thats such a classic line

but yea started when i was 3, loved it

then last year got my first twins

and now i pretty much live in the park

i started because it seemed so much more natural to have my feet move seperate...plus you turn and stop just like you do on hockey skates which i've played since i was like 6 so that is why

i am a skier cuz i skied with my dad ALL the time, so i never got to really snowboard. and im soo glad that happened. but when i started not skiing wit my dad about 4 years ago i got into freeskiing and with my friends and hits and stuff.

haha i remember wen ppl called them "trick skis"

anyway i started skiing wen i was 4 and i just did all mountain till about a year ago wen i got my first twin tip. now im always in the park fYi(in 14 years old)

my school had a ski club and since my dad had been a hudge ass ski bum his whole life" but got hurt skiing so had to quit" my parents were like "do you wanna join the ski club" i was like JEA but i'm going to snowboard. but then right before i handed in the sign up sheet i changed it from snowboarding lessons to skiing lessens.

Then on that note i'll credit my local hero's the fetherstones and syffers for bombing down the hill switch and doing back flips. And absolutly blowing my little mind. Makeing me think skiing was the coolest thing ever. so now i've been skiing for like 4 years and skiing on twins for 2 peace

i started when i was like 4, went out a ton every year, and got my first twins last year (PE's). still don't ski much park, but i just got hooked. i'm out like 4 times a week now.

i started skiing at 5 and then last year i got a pair of 05 salomon 720's cause i wanted to be a parks skier but that didnt work out cause my dad still wanted me to race and then i got my karmas cause they were just a better ski and i pretty much ski park full thime now,

ps. my dad still wants me to race lol

My dad won a trip to Lake Louise through his company, got me lessons, didn't ski for about 2 years. Picked it back up at 13, next year I was dragged off to volunteer as an instructor aide, got my CADS level 1 Instructor and my first pair of twins this year.
