Why did you choose skiing ?

Im sure this topic is visited a ton , but why did you choose to start skiing , why not snowboarding ? Why or why not did you choose skiing over other sports.

I personally started because I saw it on youtube and though it looked cool and when I tried it I had a dope time.

So why did you choose skiing or why did you start?

My parents got me skiing at around 4. Didn't really have a choice and I'm glad for it. I'm old enough also that snowboarding basically wasn't around back then.

thank ur parents

When I was 3 or 4 until like 9 my dad and I would go every Saturday. I stopped for a bit for gymnastics but then injury caused me to end my gymnastics career. I got bored of doing nothing and got a new ski set up that Christmas. I think that was like 5 years ago. I tried snowboarding 3 years ago but it just wasn't as fun and I sucked at it. My home resort is only 500ft vertical and it started to get boring so I started riding park and yeah. That's how I got into skiing lol

I started skiing when I was 2, so I don't even remember my first day on skis. I remember when I was in elementary school, I really wanted to start snowboarding, but my parents wouldn't let me because they thought it was stupid. Now I couldn't imagine switching over

my dad's a skier, and coming from hockey it made it so easy to learn. plus when i tried snowboarding i sucked and fell on my ass a lot and it was miserable

i tried boarding first when I was like 7 and I sucked at it and was a huge pussy and then like 4 years later I tried skiing and loved it haha

When I started skiin they was no such thing as snowboarding. And like most others I imagine I first went with my parents when I was young.

I wonder how many people actively got into the sport compared to those who first went with there parents and it went from there.

Me and my best friend decided to just buy skis one day because we were bored during the winter, best decision of my life.

My current girlfriend and one of my closest friends were skiiers on a mountain of many many snowboarders. They made it look like so much fun. One day I asked my buddy if I get strap on his boots (full 2 sizes too small) and let me try skiing. Immediately I fell in love with it. Since then I've snowboarded twice but I will never go fully back. Ever.

My parents took me and one time i just fell in love with it.

As for not snowboarding, I pressured my dad into trying it once with me. It was both of our first times. I hated it, but my dad went out that night and bought a board. He's 54 now, been riding for 3 years, and can keep up with me big mountain.

I got my first set up for Christmas when I was about 6 or so. I opened the binding first and had no idea what they even were, a few weeks after I went skiing for the first time and haven't stopped since

Well i had a little toy snowboard when I was younger and I loved it so about 5 years ago I tried to snowboard with a real board and it went ok. I fell a lot and whatnot and I hated having to istrap in every time. I had a lot of fun though and I wanted to go again but I never had enough money. Last year, I had enough money to try something but I tried skiing instead of boarding and I was pretty good at it. My friend sold me his old skis and boots for $50 and that's how I got into it :p

99% of the people in the park at my home hill snowboard. I like being different. And I just like it better.

None of my family ski just me so it is difficult to get to the mountains when I was younger but the reason I started was because my parents didn't want me to. so naturally I wanted to

My parents used to teach skiing in Camelback so when i was like 2 they had me on skis. from there i skied till i was 12 then i switched to snowboarding for a few years and then i got a job as a ski instructor and the i got into freestyle. worth every minute

I always thought skiing just looked better than snowboarding so I just chose to ski. I've tried snowboarding and I really don't like it. I like being able to move my feet around and not have them stuck in a stationary position.

my parents had me start skiing when i was four. to an eight-year-old me, snowboarding was the shit so i got a snowboard for my 8th birthday. i snowboarded until i was 12, when i tried my brothers twin tips on a march day(i had been watching a park skier all season and wanted to try skiing park). i was hooked from the second i clicked into his skis. since then, i have been skiing. it was easily one of the best decisions i have ever made with skiing and snowboarding.

TL;DR my parents had me start skiing when i was four. i switched to snowboarding when i was eight. i switched back to skiing when i was 12 because i thought park skiing was sick.

lol my first year i rode like 1985 rossignols with rusted edges and super slow bases. anddd i wore all black with see through orange goggles. now i rock a dub xl saga coat and full tilts lol

I snowboarded for like a year and most of my friends were/are skiers and they told me that I should start skiing. So I did

My dad taught me to ski when I was 6. Actually he kinda just took me up the bunny hill and went down a few meters and let me ski down to him, but it worked. I never took lessons from anyone else, I taught myself, and I learned quickly. I loved skiing more than anything since the first day I skied, it really wasn't a choice, it was ski or live a meaningless life.

A little over a year ago my roommate got lost and passed away on Mt. Hood learned to ski for him and fell in love with it, only keep a snowboard for powder now. The style is ages ahead of boarding anyhow too filming and tricks

That's fucking awesome dude! Sorry to hear about your roommate though):

I grew up in the Northern Plains so snowboarding was what everyone did on the 100 ft hill. I never got into it, but when I moved to Colorado last year my friend, who is a really great snowboarder, said I should really look into skiing instead.

I had to get past the old "skiing isn't cool" from when I grew up, which was easy enough to do with youtube, and then at some point I became more interested in skiing. The "This is Skiing," edit mash which included a segment from TC [found that out later] where they're in insanely deep pow and someone is just swallowed into it, and a kid named Luu's edit both really made me rethink what I thought about skiing and snowboarding.

Also butters.

I'm not sure when I realized I didn't care about trying out snowboarding any longer. I had intended to try both, maybe it was after going to the X games, or maybe it was just after seeing the snowboarders always sitting down all of the time and hating traverses. Bought skis in the spring, that's that.

Never had the choice. My dad took me up to the hill when I was two weeks old and skied around with me in his jacket all day. On snow by myself when I was 2 and never stopped...Tired snowboarding, crashed a lot, cried a lot so now I ski a lot.

i ski to even out the population between snowboarders and skiers.

snowboarders are stupid.

there are too many of them.

its like asianinvasion.

most of the snowboarders i know are potheads.
