Why can't snowboarders land as cleanly as skiers?

From what I have seen in person, snowboarders wash out on their toe-side and roll around during landings incredibly often. To the point of it being kind of annoying. It is more surprising to see them actually land a cliff or backie without dragging their face through the snow.

Is the inferior sport that much more difficult or are skiers just better at standing up? America explain.

1 ski is less stable than 2

Literally every snowboarder looks like he is going to eat it after dropping a cliff / landing a big jump. Apart from Travis Rice.

It’s hard to stop a spin without those 2 skis/ edges, and the way skis are you can land backseat or forward easily without much problem and still make it look ok. Boards are less forgiving in all aspects of landing

This is something I have also noticed in competitive snowboarding. It seems like snowboard judges penalize hand-drags and just generally sketchier landings way less than the corresponding skier landing would be treated.

Plus their rail game in slope comps is always so weak....

i would think their rail game would be weaker because they cant use thier edges to catch on to rails

still think snowboard comps are dope as is the sport

Ha ha. This is not even true. Same % see I in skiing as boarding. It's not the arrow, it's the person pulling the bow!

You all must be out of your damn minds, snowboarders make Jibbing, and jumping (at least on flowy jumps) look effortless. Considering terrain parks were first designed for snowboarders it makes sense that they are a boarder’s natural playground.

New Tech is progressing snowboarding to be able to navigate outside of parks. Skilled snowboarders who are just riding around even look steezy as hell.

As stated before it all depends on the snowboarder just as it is with skiers. There are too many skiers who have sloppy landings not fluid at all, backslapping, edge catching, yard sale having asses.

The board is harder to manoeuvre, it’s attached to their legs as one bit. They also have no exact “structure”: the top half of their body kinda just swings around and it’s harder for them to be stable. Whereas a skier, we’ve got lots of structure: two planks facing forward, and we have poles too.

I honestly think every rail trick looks better on a snowboard

Like a 2 pretz 4. Oh wait snowboarders can barely 2 pretz 2. Seeing as no one has done a 2 pretz 4 on a snowboard to my knowledge it all depends on the kind of rail skiing/snowboarding your into.

This is really noticeable watching the FWT, the snowboarders are flailing and crashing all over the place not nearly as clean as the skiers. With the exception of Travis Rice, who for some reason is 3 times better than the next snowboarder on the tour.

Lmao I’ve done it both ways in a snowboard / switch and regular

Its also much more impressive on a snowboard since you cant edge.

One thing i am jealous of snowboarders about is presses (not talking nose/tail slides)

Truth

Backside 180 to tail or nose press is boss

You guys are crazy.

Snowboarders stomp so much harder in pow.

At a certain point, the fact that our skis are on separate feet becomes a disadvantage. Not acknowledging that is willfully ignorant.

Stop being a hater and only looking only at sub-par snowboarders, watch some real OG's ride and appreciate the beauty of their sport.

No copies, just fax. Snowboards also rip chop much more gracefully than skiers who often gotta widen stance for stability. Hard not to respect that.

1 is the loneliest number

One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do

Two can be as bad as one

It's the loneliest number since the number one

No is the saddest experience you'll ever know

Yes, it's the saddest experience you'll ever know

'Cause one is the loneliest number that you'll ever do

One is the loneliest number, whoa-oh, worse than two

It's just no good anymore since you went away

Now I spend my time just making rhymes of yesterday

Snowboarders have to land on edge. If they land flat based they usually washout because nothing is keeping them stable. Pretty shitty if you ask me....we have it easy just being able to stand up hahaha

Good skiers land well.

Good snowboarders land well

Shitty skiers land shitty

Shitty snowboarders land shitty.

Wow, what a thread. Glad I could help clear things up.

Was talking about this with my dogs who board the other day - skiing is kinda like a stomping cheat code when sending it deep.We lean back and can ride out from way more. Skiers can just sit back on our 2 feet and 2 planks on sketchy landings, whereas if a boarder lands back seat they're putting all the weight on one leg.

Post a vid, I don’t believe you have all 4 2 pretz 2’s on a snowboard. If you do that’s extremely impressive. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anybody hardway 2 pretz 2 on a snowboard lol

Fair enough.

But better style on a snowboard on big tricks happens

1 out of 100 times.
so you’re saying skiing has good style 1 out of 10 000 times?

Snowboarders do bigger tricks 99/100 times tho
