Why are songs that are used by major ski movie producers so damn cool?I've always thought "Had I found that song first I'd used it!" But on the other hand I think maybe if I had found it first, I had just browsed on, and not noticed the song at all !
My example is "Madvillain - Figaro" in Jiberish Welcomes Clayton Vila and Sean Jordan! Such a damn cool song, but yet very special.
Why is this song attached to my mind, and why did not I find it first! Anyone else feel the same way?

The songs are really cool because the person making the movie/edit wants the best music possible to match the style of riding and image they are trying to show. Hours and hours went into filming it and they want the best shit to match up with it so they will spend awhile finding the right song. Or perhaps they already have the right song in mind and film the edit to fit the music. Plus, you are associating some badass skiing with that song, which automatically gives that song a lot more credit in your mind. Not that the song was shit from the start, though.

Cus you're young and your generation has shitty taste in music, unlike most ski movie producers.

fucking Lonnie Smith sample.. how could you miss that

Because when you're been making ski movies/edits for a long ass time, you know how to use a song and you know how to find songs/ have connections new music as well. Or at least better than just some kid.

i've also noticed that artists and songs that are used in ski movies blow up a few months after the movie comes out. like i never heard of alt-j or kendrick lamar before the 86 and now it seems like they're blowing up in the music industry. maybe i just don't have a life outside of ski movies lol.

Can't hold us by Macklemore was in the opening segment of WE. Went #1 on Billboard this spring and Macklemore blew the fuck up since last fall.

You best not be implying that figaro is merely an average song. If you are, tonight is your last night on earth. If you aren't I'd like to have an iced tea with you.

Yup, I love this song so much but I can't tell if it's just that sick or it's because I subconsciously associate it with one of the best edits I've ever seen.

So true, just like how Freeskier are paid off to write reviews to create the overhyped ski of tomorrow

I agree, well put!
- But do you agree that if you had found one of them awesome songs first you might as well have overlooked it?

when picking out songs for my edits there are a couple things im looking for:

- a song that fits the rider's style

- a song that fits the edits style. important! you can't just use the same genre/style over and over. people get bored with that!

- a song that not too many people know, those that don't will say woah i wanna download this, and those that do will be like wow i love this song, stoked to hear it in an edit

and thats probably what professional filmmakers are thinking themselves, they just have more experience...plus its their job dude, thats what they do as a living lol

I actually find it really wierd that so few skiiers knew about Madvillainy considering it has become such a classic album. Rest of DOOM's stuff is also really sick however few skiiers seem to have heard about the villain.

It's saddening, but then again, only cool people know about DOOM so I'm not surprised he isn't more popular on NS.

well I used it in one of my edits, doues that make me half-cool? ore u just here to change the subject of the thread?

But you said in the OP you didn't. I'm very confused, but good, I'm glad some people still find humor in my posts.
