Sequence settings? Never heard of her…

big assumption but I think most people just don't know a lot about framerates and why there are common standards.

or they just like the look, like tiktoks saying "record in 60fps on your phone for higher quality"

it's intentional. probably from skate videos.

anyway, 24fps is weird because we shoot 60fps - so if you interpret 60fps as 24fps footage/in a 24fps timeline, it drops every other frame AND additionally every 5th frame, so the motion is uneven. it causes you to get a uniform time interval between each frame for 4 frames, then on the 5th frame the time interval doubles because 2 frames needed to be deleted there, then returns to the uniform interval for the next 4 frames, repeat. but, to be fair, it is difficult for most normal people to see the "skippy motion" that unevenly dropping frames can cause.

i think 30fps is the best. it looks like a documentary, it has some of the same effect of 24 but no motion mismatches when conforming, and you can still get 50% slomo. i back 60fps, august light is 60 export with a lot of broll footage interpreted to 30 in the timeline, so kind of a mix to get both the 30 and 60 appearance. 24 is good too depending on style, but i think that looks best when filmers are smart and switch their camera into 24fps for broll and only film in 60fps for action.

Yea i think it's caught more wave cause of recent skate edits/movies dropping in 60p...120hz devices too

60p is just so much more visually appealing. I guess the skate scene knew what was up when they started the trend I guess (if you can even call it that?)

Hell yea thanks. Yea I’ve always shot in 60p for action and switch to 24p for filler so I’ve always used a 24p timeline. Just noticed the switch to 60p and was curious to the switch up.

it’s stylistic. 24 can be very visually appealing if shot correctly. skate videos are so far from infallible, you’re limiting yourself if skate style is the pedestal.

I think it makes more sense in skating than skiing cuz some of the skate tricks happen so quick it makes sense to have a higher frame rate. For skiing I think it's just a stylistic choice of whether you prefer it to look more natural or more smooth, and I think both choices are valid.

I mean there’s only three choices lol

I think if you're shooting everything 60p then the ideal move is to edit in a 30p timeline and have 50% slomo. I try to export 24p and I usually film in 60fps for clips where the focus is a trick/stunt, where as if I'm trying to show accurate motion/speed it's definitely better to use 24fps with a 180 degree shutter.

The timeline dropframe to 24p when shooting 60fps (or any fps above 24) to does look a tad weird but exporting 60p looks like a soap opera or something, way too "real" looking, It's a similar look to the motion smoothing or true motion that comes default on new tvs. That being said everyone has different taste and I don't really care that much.

Listen to this man. He knows what he's talking about.
