Who is more at risk of brain injury?

This is just out of curiosity and I just want to know everyone's opinion on this topic.

Assuming all are wearing the same helmet, who do you think would be more at risk of a brain injury, and who do you think would be least at risk?

-The novice skier on the bunny slope

-The average "every week/every other week or so" skier

-The advanced skier

-The professional skier

The advanced and professional category would include racers, big mountain, park skiers, mogul skiers, aerialists, etc. etc.

Also, ignore the severity aspect of this hypothetical brain injury.

novice skier on the bunny slope is definately most at risk. Its hard to say who would be least, but I would say the advanced skier.

Would take a lot of time to statistically figure out, but the main risk to the beginner is getting hit on the head by the poma/t bar. Or getting hit by another skiier while going too slowly/doing something incorrect etc.

I would guess novices and intermediates are most at risk. Novices for obvious reasons. Intermediates due to overconfidence.

I often see intermediate skiers charging along the margins of blue runs, arms out, backseated, thinking they are awesome. Yeah those are the people that cause bad collisions since they are confident enough to go somewhat fast, but not in control enough to avoid unexpected obstacles. At least the newbies aren't generally going very fast, unless they are completely out of control.

According to ski injury.com most collisions occur from someone going fast along the margins of a blue run. Not sure how that factors into overall head injuries though.

This right here. I heard (I think on unofficial networks) that the most ski deaths are intermediate skiers that are going too fast, lose control, and either hit ice or a tree

Stats show it's average skiers - losing control on blue runs and hitting trees at speed (biggest cause of brain injury related deaths at least).

I would like to see the statistics on this. and yes, at least in Quebec, all the statistics are compiled for every single injury. so they're out there, but probably not released publicly which kinda sucks.

Last year a woman on a super easy green slope at our hill somehow managed to kill herself by running into a riblet....so you never know.

well, im sure pros sustain the most injuries per capita on the whole, i dont know about brain injuries specifically.

I would say the "average" park skier is at the highest risk. Rails, airs and any spin trick has way more potential to fuck you up than the average ski fall simply because of the obstacle you're on, the trajectory of the fall and the high chance of odd positions in the fall.
