Who else is pissed at Alpine Meadows opening date?

I just got an email about Alpine Meadows operation dates, December 5th-April 15th, and weekend only through that til May.

I'm not too happy about it, but they did say they would be flexible based on snow conditions and skier demand. Check out unofficialalpine.com's forum.

Most will be pissed that this is not in regionals. For real, I think it all depends on when the snow falls. If Alpine deems that they can't make a sufficient amount of money before December 5th, then it is better they not open earlier, risking financial loss. I would take skiing into May ANYTIME over getting to ski a little bit of snow for a week or two earlier in November. Boreal will open in early November, maybe even Halloween if temperatures permit, so I think you are set. I'm pretty sure Tahoe has 12 resorts, and nin of them are North Lake, Alpine included. There will be plenty of other places to get in those turns. I really hope I make it up there this year. Tahoe FTW!

Yep once again alpine an more importantly JMA is showing what a horrible company they are. I replied to their operation dates with a lengthy post though i doubt they will allow it to be seen. Mid november used to be average and missing thanksgiving meant it was a late winter...now they are planning to open in december? Closing in mid april with saturday and sundays for a few more weeks? Oh yea that really shows they care about loyal pass holders. JMA you are the WORST company in skiing and you have ruined my favorite mountain!!! after 8 years riding there I like many many others have taken my business elsewhere. JMA i hope you read this, I am a local bartender at a very busy restaurant and have quite a bit of contact with tourists. I used to tell everyone to go to Alpine Meadows as i thought it was the best mountain in the are....now I tell them that alpine is a good mountain but has terrible management and they would be better off taking their business to one of the other great local ski areas. FUCK YOU JMA I HATE YOU WITH A PASSION FUCK YOU FUCK YOU!!!!

JMA killing it all over again. Too bad they have run it into the ground, fucking over pass holders, employees, pretty much everyone. Alpine used to be awesome, but JMA did a great job of squeezing the awesome out and replacing it with pure suck. Just an FYI, I think the park is going to be non existent this year, rumor has it Jonas (head park builder) is gone.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but you're better off a Squaw this year.

Alpine has always been one of the first resorts open and the way it snows here, they should be able to open around thanksgiving. I think next year I might get my pass at Sugar bowl.

Easy there killers!

Nothing to get that worked up about. We have not opened until December for the last three years, even before JMA bought it. Alpine does not feel the need to waste money on the snowmaking it takes to get a white strip open on Kangaroo. Instead they have decided to try to spend that money on staying open while we have snow on the ground. IF we get snow before the 5th, they said that they will try to open as early as they can

It's smart buisness in these tough times to try to consolidate. We don't really make any money on those first few weeks and the place is a ghost town after easter. If were open during those times, we might as well have a $$$$ bonfire at the bottom of Summit. I think we'll leave that to Boreal.

I will be back at Alpine this year building park. I got the go ahead to build a park on the mountain. Something that has never been seen at Alpine or any mountain for that matter. We will be using the natural rollovers, meadows, sidehills, etc. that lend themselves to building park features. I want to build a park that you can ride a real chair and get cliffs and the best jumps.

I don't know about you, but when I ride Alpine I'm always saying to myself "It would be awesome if there was a jump there". Well, I want to build those features. It's not going to be an all mountian terrain park. It's going to be an awsome mountain with terrain features on it. Not all jammed into one 30 second run and an 8 minute chair ride. More details will be released soon.

I know there is some anger out there, but Alpine is coming back around. When your in a 30 minute line at Squaw at every lift (20,000 early passes sold), you will remember why Alpine is so sweet. It's all about the riding. Don't sweat the minor details.

If you do want to buy a pass, please PM me with your e-mail. The passes I sell will help the park grow and I will have a special deal for those that don't make the early rate cut-off.

Yea that park sounds sweet and Alpine is a great mountain which is why i have spent so many days there, but projecting a short season this far out is cheap! Don't justify it with the last three years those were three of the weakest winters in Tahoe history hence the lake looks like its going to dry up and i know people that can just about walk out to the end of their piers. If this is all just a good business decision then why is alpine sales lagging when others are managing to find revenue and do well?

Almost all the resorts aim for Thanksgiving as an opening date. Whether or not it actually happens is up to mother nature. Dec. 5th is the next weekend. I'd love to ride earlier too, but it's just not very realistic without massive amounts of snowmaking. Plus, Alpine is not really about the white strip of death. Kangaroo for three weeks gets pretty lame.

They said they will stay open, at least weekends, into May. I know it's not quite as long as we used to stay open, but almost all the tahoe resorts close on the second week of April. That is not a short season, it's average.

If it's a good snow and revenue year, things will be better on all aspects. Everybody has to tighten their belts on lean years. Believe me, other resorts are not doing as well as you think. http://www.saminfo.com/news/article.php?tid=4132

Cutbacks are happening everywhere. Everyone at Vail resorts took pay cuts last year(Scary). http://www.onthesnow.com/news/a/6390/vail-resorts-cuts-employee-wages-from-the-top-down

I try to look at the bright side. New park, everyone bought a Sqauw pass, El Nino. Sounds like a pretty good year to me.
