caribou are stupid. the herd that lives in the nelson range (and the herd that lives up by quenel lake) apparently used to be part of the huge herd up in the territories but got separated years ago. now they're down here, and they're running out of habitat, yet not smart enough to move on to better land.
well, the herd around quenel lake isn't fucked yet - but west fraser wants to cut a mass majority of the north shore of the lake, which is the last untouched forest that isn't within protected parklands, so i guess we'll find out what happens to the caribou after that goes down.
a little off topic, but still. and the park at salmo/creston for the caribou is silly too 'cause the caribou spend the majority of their time down on the states side and only go into the (small and pointless) park minimally. then if you get into the salinity of the lake at the pass 'cause of the highway being right beside it... wait, that's a different story - we'll get to that one later.
