Whitewater kayakers of Newschoolers!

Hey guys, I got some requests to make this thread. This is a space to talk about the best off-season sport in the world! Where do you guys live, what boats do you own, what rivers do you paddle. What's the scariest river/section of a river that you have ever paddled?

Enter it all below!

Currently living in Pembroke Ontario for school. I own a möbius wave sport, and my girlfriend has a jackson karma. My main river is the Ottawa, and hoping to surf bus eater this spring (although I can't thrown any tricks, started to learn spins at the end of the fall) and I've run the seven sisters on the rouge in Quebec.

Always down to paddle if skiers are in the area!

I live in Idaho and where I live I usually don't get to go that often, but I've kayaked the salmon river before and thats pretty cool and scary at the same time

Threads cuz I wanna get into it next summer.

What are some good kayaks to look for to start out? I have spent a lot of time on rivers but never been in a kayak before but I really want to start.

Honestly just keep your eye out for a used kayak. New ones start at a grand but they last a life time unless your really beat them up. And look for a local kayak club or a group of people you could go with, I still can't ever imagine going out alone.

On a different note what are people's experiences with rescue training, identifying features and first aid. This past year I felt very stupid with the amout of training I got for the amout of time on the river, I would've been very unprepared if a boat ever got pinned or a similar rescue scenario were to happen. I'm just curious to know both what certifying bodies people use and what others are comfortable running rivers with

Awesome thanks, we have a good consignment shop in Bozeman that has a couple kayaks laying around for around 500. Anything specific damage or anything I should look for on a used one?

Just make sure there aren't any deep gashes on the boat as well as look and try out the outfitting to make sure your comfortable in it. And just ask for help if youre unsure about anything, the paddling community is pretty awesome!

Idaho is dope, I live there too and if you ever get the chance to go out to the river again go try upper main. It's a great way to get the feel for kayaking and has some low to high skill levels depending on the lines you try in certain rapids. But the biggest water I've been on is the south fork canyon some gnarly shit in there

I wanna get into kayaking so bad next summer. Live near Pittsburgh, so I've been rafting on the Yough from Ohiopyle a few times. What's the best way to get started?

Queensbury, NY. third season doing it in summer 2016, but summer 2015 was my first "full" season.

Where do you paddle? I've been guiding the Hudson for 5 years now.

I have a 8.5 Dagger Nomad and a 6.4 Dagger jitsu. I do a lot of paddling in the South East. The Occoe, cheoa, Little in the smokes, The new river (West Virginia) and the local spot the falls of the Ohio. A bunch of other stuff but those are the classics.

whats good kayakers. So i finally live in Montana again and there are kayaking opportunities out the ass here. I've kayaked in my lifetime, but really only casually with nothing too wild and exciting. What's the best way into the sport? I'm gonna need something to occupy my time in the summer
