As many of you know, White Pass is very small. As you also may know, there is a very lage area that we own, but cannot expand into. This area, hogback is 700 acres of awesome cascade terrain. lots of powder, and awesome skiing. Expansion has been stopped because of enviromental concerns. The decision to expand will be going to court. White Pass needs our help. Comments about expansion will be accepted at naches@fs.fed.us

Please help out. Explain how the expansion is a great idea, and how it can benefit the local area. There is an article in Thursdays (the 20th) News Tribune in South Sound, second page. Here is what it says:

The US Forest Service is seeking public expansion of the White Pass ski area. the White Pass Company, which operates the ski area about 55 miles west of Yakima under a special use permit issued by the Forest service, wants to add about 700 acres or Hogback Basin. The new area would have two chair lifts, a midmountain day lodge and parking at the base. Comments on the proposed expansion may be emailed until Jan. 5 to naches@fs.fed.us

Even if you do not ski at White Pass, if you feel that the sport would benefit from this, pass your comments along.

Actually we don't own the expansion area. It was taken out of Wilderness years ago so White Pass could expand. Wilderness was added elsewhere in exchange (a lot more than was taken out).

There won't be a parking lot added anywhere either that I'm aware of. I'll look through all the info I have again and post again if I'm wrong about that.

I talked to all the Forest Service people at a meeting last night and they all said that their findings indicate no negative impact on the area due to a ski area expansion.

There will be some additional parking added to the existing parking but I'm not sure where they're gonna put it.

i think a good spot would be just west of the lodge, between the lodge and the shop. they could make just about that whole thing parking. it really doesnt serve much purpose that i am aware of, and connect it to the loop and shop parking... i dunno anywhere else, unless the put the one across the street back in towards the trees more.

West of the shop is prolly not an option because of the drainfield system under there and it's a needed area for snowcat turnaround. Most likely the new area would be added onto the day lot over by the office and condos.

This expansion is gretly needed, and would make white pass the sickest mountain in Wahington
