Whidbey island

anyone know about how long of a drive it would be from whidbey island to mount baker? my brother might be getting stationed at the naval air base on whidbey and i wanted to know how far it would be from some sick pow and steeps
 
Haha dude I live on Whidbey and it sucks ass living here. It's like a 3 hour drive. I usually just ski Stevens. From the naval base on the north end it would probably take like 2 and a half hours though. I live on the south end so it would take longer for me.

Anyway, Stevens is alright. I know that there were 2 days last year where we actually got siiick powder. Only 2 days but there were extremely good. and the park isn't that bad, I've heard snoqualmie has a better pack but I like Stevens better overall.
 
mmm... im gonna have to disagree. i skied 6 days straight of face shot pow in february. probably over 20 days of really damn good fresh. and billy, why do you have to hate everything so much? stevens is a fun ass place to ski, its got sick terrain, and the park is fun when its maintained.
 
I'm not saying we didn't have more, cause I know we did, but right aroudn the time of all those days my life got hella chaotic so I couldn't shred it. Stevens is better than given credit for. and if you know where to go and what to hit it's very easy to have a sick day there.
 
Billy is bitter about Stevens. Its a great area, I've gotten lots of great pow days there, and the park is a mess, but fun. Its your best option, because snoqualmie basically isnt a real ski area.
 
im pretty sure you guys a rediculous amount of snow early in the season, or at somepoint in the season there was a stretch of snow after snow after snow
 
someone who was stationed there told me it's like 2 hours from base to baker, and there's some form of transportation provided from what i understand - van or bus or something, i don't know.

i'm going into the navy, probably (hopefully) to be a pilot, and i'm thinking about going for E/A-18G's so i can be stationed at whidbey.

 
yeah my brothers one of the last few to be trained for the e/a6-p then he will go e/a-18g after about 5 years on the prowler, he's still in florida but he just got his movement orders which will be effective around late april to early june but it's kinda hit or miss with the electronic warfare planes because you're either Atlantic fleet or Pacific fleet, you get one or the other and you can ask for one but it doesn't necessarily mean you're going to get it
 
don't listen to XavierD, kids a clown and hates everything cause hes madddd emo. Stevens Pass is sick. fun place to chill and just shred
 
yeah i commission in may so they'll probably be done training prowler pilots.

i'm leaning towards the e/a-18g's because i want to fly jets but i don't want to get stuck at lemoore, cali. and if you're in hornets you're either at oceana or lemoore, and the growlers will probably be oceana and whidbey.

 
yeah but every so offten we just get bad years, and I mean real bad, places arnt open untill january closed before march. others never open. in mid febuary 05 There was no snow on the ground at alpental.
 
he has a little bit of pull, he came out of Annapolis, actually both of my brother's did...sigh i feel like such a failure but at least i can get drunk in college, something neither of them could do
 
but it'll be sick cause while he's gone for 6 months on a carrier i'll be the only one in the house...tee hee

haha yeah i'm definitely glad i didn't go the academy route. i wanted to at first but wound up instead getting paid to go to normal college where i get to fly and ski utah.

 
i definitely have a lot of respect for them for doing it, they have to take 21 credits a semester and some of the classes like freshman year chemistry are ranked as some of the hardest classes in the country
 
stevens is very very nice. at first it looks pretty uninteresting, but there are lots of little shots that no one really skis alot and if there is fresh or a couple days after, you can really have a great time out there.
