Which Telephoto Lens

Hey M&A,

I am looking to buy a telephoto lens this summer ASAP. My budget is about 2.5g's and need a longer lens for sports video and photography. I am leaning towards the Canon 100-400mm f4.5-5 but can not decide if that is the best option.
 
What do you have now?

I've heard the 100-400 is a great lens. You could buy a 70-200 with a 2x converter instead if you wanted, youd get more range.

70-200mm F2.8 L IS II, you could then pick up a 300mm f4 for really cheap or just use teleconverters as well.
