Which skis should I bring to Snowbird, Utah?

Hi everybody,

I plan to go to snowbird and spend a full winter of being a ski bum over there. The thing is, I've read they get a lot of snow, and I need to know if it would be worth it for me to get a wider pair of Liberty's.

I currently use Liberty Helix 176 (135-105-122) as my daily driver and also have LTE's for park use only. Would I benefit from getting a pair of Double Helix (150-121-140) or should I just stick with my Helix?

Thanks everyone, and if anyone knows someone that is renting a room for the winter in Salt Lake just PM me.

I would start with the Helix and see if you can handle it. Its nice to have a bigger ski, but a helix would be a great option for an everyday Utah ski.

Thanks man! I've had the Helix's for 2 years now, but never been to Utah before haha, If they dont float much I'll just switch em up for the DH.

Having something a tad wider than 105mm underfoot will be nice. If you have a winter like last, the Helix's will be fine. Lets hope its not so shitty though!

Im praying so that the bird gets pounded with snow.

While we are on this subject, which would you guys choose? Taos or Snowbird?

Thanks!

I havent skied taos, but it has a reputation of having super gnar terrain, with kinda crap snow. the bird has super gnar terrain with great snow. Salt lake is a great place to be a skier. If it were me i would go to the bird.

I live about 40 minutes south of Taos and can vouch for their crap snow. Its amazing when they have it but its pretty hit or miss. You would have much better luck with Snowbird.

Quick question - why not be a ski bum at Alta instead? Truth be told, if you end up at Alta, you may never leave. Snowbird is for _______________. You'll be able to fill in that blank after only a few days there. (There...I said it!)

this. im an east coast guy, but ive skied alta at least 12 times and snowbird maybe 5, alta is much better in my opinion, you can always just get a dual pass though

The dual pass is too expensive, but when I get there it will just be a mater of deciding, some friends from SLC recommended me Alta and others Snowbird, I have to figure it out.

This will be a bi step for me, I tried to go to squaw last year but fucked up my ankle before the trip.

Thanks guys!
