hey guys, so this purchase is probably something I won't be making in the near future, probably at some point next year once i save up enough but i'm daydreaming about it right now so i figured i'd reach out to the ns community to help me figure out which skis i should get next.
for starters, i'm from colorado, i'm 5'10" and 155 lbs. i ski pretty hard and do a decent amount of park but i also do plenty of all mtn. also looking into getting some daymakers and skins this winter. i'm gonna get some other bc safety gear as well and educate myself because i wanna get more into backcountry and become more well rounded. also bc/touring gear will be clutch if the resorts happen to close this winter. i currently ride on3p magnus 102s in a 181 cm length as my main ski (which i plan on using said daymakers and skins with this winter) and faction candide 2.0s in a 178 cm, but those are more my beater/urban skis now. my on3ps can handle pretty much everything and they are a terrific, insanely durable park/all mtn ski that actually does pretty well in pow due to the rocker. this is kinda unrelated, but for anyone looking for a mid-fat all mountain freestyle ski, the magnus 102 is perfect.
all of that being said, for my next pair i'm looking for something wider - at least 112 ish underfoot - that can handle deep snow better, something a little lighter than the on3ps, something full twin, and something maybe a little softer that can be playful but will still hold up well when landing cliffs and charging through crud. the dampness and beefiness of the on3ps can definitely be really nice for charging hard but i find that they can be kinda tough to spin fast because of the weight (the pivots i mounted on them probably don't help) and if it weren't for the rocker i wouldn't be able to butter nearly as well because i'm not quite heavy enough to really power through the ski and flex it. my friend has a pair of arv 116s as his de facto daily driver since he sold the rest of his quiver, and he said they can get a bit awkward on rails sometimes due to the width, but he loves skiing them everywhere else, even on hardpack, and for a ski that is more dedicated to pow/all mtn, i'm not too worried about park performance, although i do want them to be skiable in the park. some options i've been considering are the arv 116, line outline, lib tech ufo 115, and the on3p jeffrey 116. also, to be clear, i'll be mounting this setup with griffons/jesters and using daymakers and skins on these as well.
TLDR: what would be the best freestyle pow ski setup to use for both resort skiing and touring via daymakers, and would i be better off mounting them at true center if i'm still gonna take them into the park and ski switch on them, or would 1-2 cm back work better? if anyone has other options for skis feel free to throw those out as well.
