Which One would you choose? 40mm vs. 50mm

OP, your shooting crop right? 10mm is minimal at that length, the 50mm 1.8 is cheaper and gives you just over a full stop more of light.

If you were shooting full frame (35mm), then I'd say 50mm 100%, I shoot a 24mm on my 60d (38.4mm), and I find it just a bit too wide, I much prefer my 50mm on my film camera.

The canon 24mm F2.8, the old one, not the IS. It's not extremely sharp but the F2.8 is nice to have, my (grandfather's, basically mine) 17-40 is F4 so not the greatest in low light. I find I mostly use the 24mm on my EOS film camera, has a nice look on film.
