WHICH Laptop? Comparison.

i have an older sony vaio and i hate it. its loud, makes wierd noises, and is rediculously slow for its specs. This could be because it has a large number of network drive on it cause it used to be my dads work computer, but i wouldnt suggest a sony based on what i've experienced.

hold your horses im hearin about new powerbooks tomarrow so just wait. if im wrong then just ignore this but wednesday powerbooks is the word on teh street

I got a 100Gb 12" powerbook for my birthday and have not looked back. I do all my photo and video editing on here with room to spare!

what are you using it for...are you looking for power or price?

i have that Compac and its not bad machine for the price but definatly not as powerful as i thought it would be....the one HP with 1gb of ram, Pentium M 740 and 100gb is a greta machine but its also a lot more then the compaq. if you doing editing, apple is the only way to go.

So basically, what are you doing with it?

k i didnt read the start i just started to look at the links. the battery life on thsi one is like 2:21 hours. not great but I have been reading they are putting out a battery to get like 5 hours.

but again....editing, gaming, word processing, video...what are you using it for?

my powerbook gets fucking HOT. Like red marks on my legs hot. I'd assume the iBook has a similar problem but I'd guess not as bad. They're really quiet though.

^ you want to be careful about putting laptops on your lap anyway, there are studies, there are studies linking it to all sorts of reproductive organ problems.

use a desk!

hahahaha. If you wanna get a Mac then wait until the new operating system comes out that runs on intel chips, its gonna be a lot faster.

you may be right, but the way I compair things is things of similar price, in which case, no matter how you look at it, AMD is better. ya sure, intel may make a procssor to compete for a AMD processor, but the amd is going to be cheaper, wether or not the intel is better (and usually the AMD is faster for most things anyway)

i know u didnt post a dell as an opion but i just recently got a dell inspiron 2300, yeah it does have a big screen and is kinda heavy, the screen is 17.5 inches (huge, but i love it)and the battery life for me has lasted for as long as 3 hours, then i hooked it up to a charger but it still had a lilttle battery life left, also the dell has smaller versions of the 2300, i also have never had any problems yet and the speed is very quick on it...so i would def. look at a dell if i was you, anyways i hope u enjoy anything that you get, and if u have any questions about a dell ill help you out anyway i can...peace

yes they are cheaper...and I prefer AMD. But avertech are like the kia of the computer world. sure it may look good and have a ton of amazing features for a great price, but its a POS

Chris, that's kind of what I thought about the Averatech....seems to have all the features...but there's a reason the brand recognition isn't there.

SOME editing, barely any....movie watching....very portable...yet also a desktop replacement...burning lots of dvds....word processing...

i'm kind of feeling like ruling out the vaio (although the above is the first negative thing i've heard about it). the averatech and cheaper HP may be out, as the Compaq may be.

i feel like it's between the 100gb black HP and the ibook, but I still don't know if i want to make the MAC transition....

more opinions welcome,and thank you.

we're looking a little under $1400 for the ibook, and a little under 1300 or 1200 for the HP, and a little under a grand for the Compaq

get the compaq...for a couple more bucks if you order it from teh right place you get a 12cell battery that will easily pull over 5 hours. the 14" widescreen is amazing to watch movies on and it burns dvd real nice and easy (comes with Sonic and its a very simple to use program). 80gb is plently unless you wanna store dvd's on your laptop (i dont, i burn and rip).

All and all i am very impressed with my compaq v2000 and its an AMD ;)

i have a hp ze2120, i like it a lot so far.it has intel mobile centrino cpu, so it doesn't get hot on the legs. really easy to connect to wireless too. screen is really nice. although it has an intergrated video card which is a disadvantage. but its 128mb, however only enough to get like 80 fps on average in counter-strike.

I'm still looking for quality insight. to be honest, nothing has put me over the edge any way.

obviously you are sacrificing purchasing one over another either way.

the compaq seems to have the most at teh smallest tag (under a grand). whlie the ibook is a good 4 of 500 bucks more.

if your into music, photoshop, and editing video, you can't beat a mac, ibooks are awesome, and if you really wanna ahve the best laptop possible, go with the 15 inch powerbook

wait. a loptop not on your lap, you must be joking. but scince you talked about reproduction problems i think i'll keep mine off my lap then...

go mac and never turn back brody!!!

and what she said about the laptops and mens' laps has a lot of research backing it. messes with your production of sperm.

new 15" and 17" powerbooks today, but all they have is higher res screens...not that big a deal.

iBooks dont get as hot in your lap cause the plastic does not transmit the heat like the aluminum does.

For PC laptop processors, its kinda up in the air... the Turion has pretty good power, low power consumption, and its 64 bit. The centrino stuff has really good power, really low power consumption, and no 64 bit. Though you cant really buy anything that uses 64 bits now.

The iBook would be my choice...i love my old iMac G4 with its lowly 800 MHz. Its still pretty good at editing video in Final Cut Express.

absolutely get the mac, but wait until 2006, cause they're switching to intel. but definitly, no contest, get a mac.

I wouldn't even think 64 bit for another 2 years, until it's acually usefull. By that time the current 64 bit processors will be obsolete.

I'm a Dell guy. I've got a 600m from a couple years ago, Pentium M with a bit of ram, I don't really remember the specs because it's not my power computer, but it's nice, light, quiet, cool (temperature) and pretty damn quick. My oldddd Dell laptop, and my Dad's one from like 4-5 years ago are loud bitches. The newer Dells are pretty damn sleek. Look at the student pricing (higher education) if you can.

the new powerbooks are much better than before. for the same price each one comes standard with a superdrive and the 15/17 inchers get 5.5 hours of battery life as opposed to the 3.5 previous and the 12 incher gets 5 hours... also 26% more pixels which would look phenomenal... if u dont roll with pbooks then get an ibook and if u dont roll with macs then dont buy a computer because macs are truly the best out there... ive had my 15 inch pbook since april 2004 and its remained solid for the entire time and dont do something stupid like buying a pc

i have a new ibook g4, runs great, the other day i had less than a gig left on my harddrive and it still ran fine. only problem is one of the little rubber peices on the bottom fell off.

just a thought but why not look into a Toshiba? In my opinion, its better than Dell and HP/Compaq and you can find deals out there (like from Tiger Direct). I got mine for under a grand (P4 2.8, 512 RAM, 60gig 15" widescreen).

Well one thing about Dell i have yet to see mentioned is how great their Customer Service is. If you have any problem, you can just call them and they'll start helping you. THat should probably be a factor in your decision too.

i can NOT seem to find a dell with my necessities for under like...2 grand.

i am typing this on a toshiba, and NEVER will they EVER get another penny from me, let alone a referral or anything else. worst computer, but more importantly, customer service, I've ever been on.

i can't seem to find the new macs/decreased ibook pricing on apple's site...am i missing somethign?
