The reaction you refer to is the exact same amount of force that is applied to make the bat move, however, when that force is applied to the ball, the affects are different then to that of a golf ball. The force exerted in relation to the bat or club is equal, but with a baseball some of that is used to change direction.
The reaction is not the movement of the ball, but the force appled to it.
