Which fat ski?

aright so winter is coming up and i have my mind set on some fat skis. i plan on taking a few trips out west this year and i dont really plan on being in the park at all.

im looking at the elizabeths, bacons, and hellbents. since i live in ohio i kinda want to choose one that i can have some fun with here. but i will be moving to california soon so ill be close to big mountains and powder so id like a ski thats just all around fun and good in pow.

im 5 8-9ish 155. and im open to other options, dont really want anything much taller than 182 or so.

Well don't forget about the EPs...if you don't mind going bigger than 182 it should work. Don't be afraid to being to small on that ski, you'd rip

but if you've looked into that and you decide not I would DEFINITELY recommend the bacons. I got to demo these on a pow day at Mt Baker and they kill. Not to mention they're plenty stiff enough to get you back onto the groomers fine. Bacons will do you fine. Elizabeths are super soft and suck in crud, where at least the EPs have 120 cm of length to touch the snow.

Dunno much about hellbents, but go for the bacons!!!

my one ski, for the moment, is the Salomon Czar, they make it in a 74 or 82. My boy, who is one of the best skiers that I know, skied them on a hardpack day including a couple of runs chasing Ingrid Backstrom and said that they did really well for a 111mm ski, that you could barely notice the 62cm early rise. I took his word for it.

All the riding in this video is done on hellbents. Seems pretty versatile if you ask me. Just something to consider:

thanks for all the input guys, ive been leaning twoards the hellbents to begin with. do they hold up well when your going faster on groomers? any downsides to them?

aright so i think ive decided on the hellbents, now its time to size them up. i cant really pick if i want to go with the 169's or 179's. ive read that the 179's are really like 184's and those would look massive on me. i have 178 invaders that come up to my forehead / hairline.

what do you guys think? will i be able to toss these around if i take them through a run in the park? or will they be too big for me to maneuver. no shops around here carry them, so i have never really seen them in person. ill need all the help i can get on this one!

Most of the kids in this thread don't know what they are talking about.

Bents are a good choice. go 189's though, they aren't as big as they seem trust me, my friend bought some yesterdy and I thought they were 179's but they were 189's.

Bacons are great, I rode them all last year, they don't float as well as Bents but are more versatile. More of a 1 ski quiver.

I'd go JJ's if I were you, or Bibby Pros.

I've seen/talked to a lot of people who rode Bents last year and they seem pretty sick, and fairly versatile for such a fat rockered ski.

dude 179 are fine for you. i would even look at the 189 because there are so many smaller people that absolutley rip on th 189. They ski a lot shorter in the park because of the rocker youll be fine with either 179 or 189 in my opinion havinig ridden both on a demo pair they were the best ski everrr.

^aright sweet, i think i might lean twoards the 179, since the shorter the better for trees lines, i went to my local shop today and held the 169's they came up to my head, so i think 179 would be good

just remember with the rocker it is not going to be like skiing that length. the 179 comes out to like a 184 but its gonna feel way shorter than that cause a lot of the ski is not even touching the snow, if all you are skiing is trees 179 should be perfect but going on bigger lines I would go 189 remember with a pow ski bigger is usually better.

yeah, i guess ill just have to wait to see both in person and make my decision, i like to put them on the ground and stand in the center to see how much length i have. if the 189's arent excessively long then ill get those, but for now im gonna stick to the 179, its 179cm actually touching the snow right? and the length itself is like 184?

Unfortunately I haven't been able to ride a lot of different fat skis but the ones that I do have and love are Scott P4's. They float super well and can absolutely rip on groomers. I love them I have yet to find a weakness.

no less than 179 is touching the snow like i said the rocker is pretty big, it has a 100 or so of sidecut

bents sound like a solid choice but if you're gonna ski alot of non powder days and just generally rip up the groomers and some park.. then i'd say to take the bacons in account too. iv'e spoken with alot of people who used hellbents last season and they loved it but only for pow and decent snow days, they kinda spoke bad about it when it came to groomed runs (not to mention ice).

i have some invaders that ill use for when its icy or for when the snow is not really there. i tried the bacons as demos, i liked them. but i kinda want to try out how the hellbents feel, and i need a pow ski for utah and montana this winter
