Which Computer?

So for my graduation I am going to get a computer so what should I get?

I was thinking probably a mac because they are phenomenal for editing.

yeah macs suck at internet, word processing, music, movies and instant messaging.

Are you looking for a specific thing to do with it, like editing, gaming, or just normal use? And what are you willing to spend?

i'd just get a mac. they're better for editing/web browsing and shit. especially cause you're getting a laptop and most PC laptop track pads blow ass.

PCs are good for gaming, if you really wanna use a PC specific program that doesn't require much just use bootcamp on your mac.

You could drop a lot of money for a good computer with a cool plastic white housing or
you could pay less for an even better computer with a built in Blue Ray player minus the cool white housing

haha i should re-phrase that. i just mean for your typical user, a mac is more friendly in terms of avoiding nasty malware and bad shit on the web. im not denying the fact that there aren't viruses for mac, and before you counter my argument by saying "so long as you don't have down-syndrome, you can avoid viruses on PC..." lets just all face it that many people don't know much about computers and are either too lazy or just unsure about how to avoid fucking them up with viral infections.

I edit video all the time on a PC with render speeds equal to a Mac at 3 times the cost and I didn't pay a cent for one program I use. I also know every component in the computer and could replace any parts that stop working. I can also run Mac OS if I wanted to, but there is no reason because literally nothing I use or have ever wanted to use is Mac exclusive.

If you are computer literate, buy a PC. If computers scare you, buy a Mac.

My girlfriend has several Macs and works on computers all day long but she doesn't know a BIOS from a butt hole. Basically if you want to be a graphic designer or any job that you would wear ironic glasses and/or a fedora on a regular basis, get a Mac. If you want to be an engineer or anything that you would ever use a spreadsheet then get a PC.

Desktop vs. Laptop is another debate. I had a clunky laptop all through college that got plugged into an external monitor and never moved. Looking back a desktop would have been a better fit and more easily upgradable. If you get a laptop you shouldn't be spending over 800 for a PC laptop system, no idea on Mac but they are pretty expensive. If you get a desktop you should build it. It is very easy and there is a whole series of videos on newegg and around the internet that will walk you through the whole process. You can build a sick computer for 700 that will be fast as shit and you can upgrade as necessary as long as you have a good processor and motherboard.

I've had some bad experiences with PC.. I went through like 3 of them within a few years.. and I was constantly getting viruses. Haven't had one problem with my Mac.. But if you're good with computers and have a decent amount of money, go get yourself a nice PC..

You dont have to be scared of PCs to use a mac, im good with my PC and i never pay for shit either, but when i switched to MAC i still never pay for any programs?

spreadsheet? are you serious? hahahaha im pretty sure you can get spreadsheet for mac, or easily run it on bootcamp.

if money is an issue however, PCs are cheaper.

Didn't read the rest of the thread so I could just state my own opinion without hating haha...

Anyway, I've had Dell computers since I was 12 (got a desktop when I was in 8th grade, laptop when I went to college). My Dell laptop made it all the way through college and beyond with relatively few problems, and I always liked it, but earlier this year it finally shit the bed, and since it was out of warranty, I needed to get a new computer. It just so happens that we have a good family friend who gave me a pretty big hookup on a Macbook Pro, so logically, I took it. I don't know if it's just because because my Dell was 5 years old and the Mac is new or what, but the Mac absolutely blows the Dell out of the water. Hell, I'd take the Mac again and again just for the fucking track pad. To me, everything about the Mac seems simpler, cleaner, and easier than the Dell computers I've previously owned. I'm not a hacker or programmer or whatever, so the Mac suits my needs just fine, and I love it. I honestly can say I would never go back to a Windows based PC at this point. The only thing I missed was Office, so I just bought Office for Mac.

Just my $.02, hopefully the thread is still on track and this is relevant.

hmm, well the new macbook pros just took a large leap, all with quad cores except for the 13" models which have dual cores that are capable of hyperthreading so that the computer thinks it has 4 cores anyways.

i think many revisions have been made to bootcamp, i used it on mine and it was flawless.

both have their ups and downs.

I am currently running an hp envy 14 with win 7 and corei7. Cost me a total of about 1,400ish. And this thing is amazing. Runs just as fast and smooth as any 2000plus dollar mac. If money is being taken into consideration, i would definetely look into hp.

see the reason i dont eat rice is because shortly after returning from the second boer war (having lost my leg in Bothaville) i got stranded in barcelona so in a snap decision i decided to take a zeppelin perhaps unsurprisingly we were set upon by a gaggle of winged platypi (not to be confused with the Himalayan swamp variety of legumes strangely named winged platypi though on second thought it's only the sounds that are similar really because im not quite sure what characters those savages transpose their words into but i digress, now far off course and descending steadily downwards thanks to the leaks incurred from the venomous back claw swipes from the platypi to the zeppelin balloon-stuff i found myself in the island nation of sri lanka only seemingly in an alternate reality wherein the earth was flat
