Which Bindings for bad knees

Hey guys. I recently took advantage of JSkis selling some blemished skis, and snagged a pair of whipits. Now I'm deciding on a pair of bindings, and I'm looking at some FKS's. I've knocked out the 180's, as I'm low on cash and I don't need my din that high. But, I'm deciding between 120 and 140. My knees are shit, and ive dislocated both kneecaps, so I don't think my DIN should be too high. Should I save some money and get the 120? I'm 6'2 and 160 lbs. Thanks NS

There is literally no difference as far as knee health. Some dumbfuck will roll in here and say FKS.....but they will be dumb. Buy a binding that has a DIN range suitable for your height/weight and skiing type.

My thinking is more along the lines of if I use a higher DIN and don't eject if I catch an edge or something my kneecap is probably going to pop out. Because of that I'm not sure if I will use over 12. If I put my DIN too high it seems like my risk of injury could skyrocket with my specific issue

i would go 14 because, as far as i know, they are built slightly better than the 12, and with your size the extra durability could be good.

another i would toss into the mix is the sth2 13. i personally only use the sth2 system, and the 13 seems like it would be the perfect binding for you

We need your age, boot sole length, skiing experience, and current or predicted skiing ability (whichever is more accurate) due to those knee injuries, in addition to your height and weight to have a chance at making a reasonable binding recommendation.

You don't need any of that stuff to determine what bindings to get. You only need height and weight in which OP gave us. Age doesn't matter, BSL only matters for AT binders that max out at a certain length, and his skiing ability does matter a bit but its more how he will use the skis that'll affect him.

I'll give you my two cents and get out of here for ya op. If you want bindings for your skis, go with any option that suits you. The only thing you need to keep in mind is your DINs. I keep mine at a 9 for all skis and a 10 for my huck everything pow boards (Idk, that's just what I like). I've never needed over a 12 or 13 din binding for anything I've done because I know my din range and don't need some crazy 14+ din binding for the way I ski. Look at your preferable DIN (By your height and weight, I'd say 8 or 9 for just everyday skis) and go for the binding with the best fit.

If you want a binding suggestion, I'd look at the Tyrolia Attack 13s. Seems like a good fit for you and one of the best bindings to be made to this date. Also, you can find last years for around 120 or less if your lucky. Hope this helps man.

you could look at knee bindings. They are ugly as sin and expensive(might be able to find a deal0 but they are the only binding on the market with true lateral release in the heel as well as in the toe which will put alot less leverage on your knees. they seem to be built ok as well but not heard much of their durability.

Thanks for the response, I'd heard good things about the sth2 but never really considered them. I'll be sure to give them a look and decide which I think will fit me better.

Thanks for the complete answer, it really helps. I think I'll be going with the fks or sth2, and I probably won't be putting my din above 12. But being a slightly bigger guy would it make sense to buy the 14's or would there really be no difference outside of a little more metal and a higher max.

I just gave them a look, and I'm putting them on a list for the future. If I have any more incidents I'll probably end up with em, but for now I don't have the money to spend $250 extra on bindings. Thanks though!

Also are the 140's being sold in black and white? If I decide to go with them id rather the black cause I don't want to go too bright and it'd look nice with the Lightning whipits and my black boots

No they are not. Only white. Don't judge equipment by color way, thats how you fuck up. The 12s still might be suitable for you though.

yea if I decide the 14 would be better ill get whatever color is there, colorway doesnt matter enough to change my mind. do you have any thoughts on 12 vs 14 tho? Is the 14 significantly more durable so a guy my size doesn't fuck it up?

Bump, 140 vs 120 for a guy like me? I'll be riding mostly park

IMO you may as well spend the extra $50 or whatever and just go for the 14 DIN version. $50 in the long run is really nothing so you may as well spend just that little bit extra and go for the (slightly) better option. A pair of FKS brakes costs more than the price difference between the 120 and 140.

I'd also recommend the Salomon/Atomic STH2 13's they're in between the price of the FKS 120 and 140 and are excellent bindings. I ride STH2 13's and they're great never given me any issues. They're a plastic binding but still very durable I've been riding mine for over a year now in the park and the only damage they've got is cosmetic scratching. Brakes are also a lot cheaper then FKS brakes and they're easier to click into in powder.
