I'm in Sydney australia for a semester and want to go skiing.. any recommendations? Some friends want to go to Thredbo, but it looks expensive and crowded and not all that great... I was dumb enough to not bring my ski boots or skis, so I'll also need to pick up some used gear/rent some.. any tips?

Mt buller is like 10 hours away... a bit far... Falls creek is about 9, also a bit far. Thredbo is... 6, still not too close, but :P
I might also just head out to new Zealand over break and ski there but any recommendations are much appreciated!

Perisher had a better park cuz its in the sun. but def stick with perisher or thredbo if you are in sydney. i live at buller. would you be interested in buying skis. i know lots of people that are trying to sell skis here at buller. 2011afterbangs w/jester 600. or faction park skis for a similar price with griffins, not too sure on model. or id sell you 159 public enemys with no bindings for $50. not too sure how you would obtain them.

and all the resorts are about to be shat on, so next week should be rad.

hey man, feel free to PM me, I live in Sydney, and I go down nearly every weekend to Perisher (cause im a season pass holder) however it is expensive if your not.. anyway I always have room in the Car if you want a lift.... as far as rentals, there is a few good places down in jindy.

Perisher gets hella crowded on weekends and school holidays esp. the park cause its on the main bunny slope of the mtn. Price wise they are about the same i think

Looking to buy gear dirt cheap; doesn't have to be anything nice; I have nice gear at home and I'll really just need it for the few times I go out while I'm in sydney.. What condition/year are those PEs? (Send me a PM...)

You can make Buller in 8 hours from Sydney if you drive the right way. But I would say Perisher would be your best bet, it's a bit bigger than Thredbo not particularly crowded mid week and I think has a better park.

or just surf in aus while you have limited time at some of the best waves in the world and make the trip to nzed any way you go its gonna run you $$$ but if you buy a surfboard for say $300 you can ride eveyday and sell it back for$200 and have all the time when you get home for our winter to shred the white wave

Ski at thredbo or Perisher. I live in thredbo its sick. 5 hours from sydney, easy drive and good fun mountain and park

Where in Sydney are you studying?
Perisher and thredbo are around 5 hrs from sydney and both have good parks. Ski tube is expensive but is much less hassle than driving up. Remember that if you drive to perisher you have to pay national park entry if you dont have a year pass for it.
Im down most weekends but i cant get down again untill late august thanks to work and uni.

Theres a fair few people that live in Syd who head down to the snow every other weekend..I'll be down next weekend to Thredbo - beyond that it's too far to travel for a weekend.

You can get there in around 5.5h but at $100+ per day, check the snow forecast first haha

Have fun dude.

Perisher also just built the largest jump in Australia, 70 ft apparantly, and i think their pipe is up as well

YEAH DAWG!! defs hit up thredbo or perisha.. they are actually only like maybe 5hours away and super fun. have a good time!!!
