HeyI am planning on heading out to America from the UK for the 2011/2012 season. I though in my mind i was set for Utah. Then i was thinking of heading to Mammoth as it is closer to LA where i have friends based. Now i have discovered the EpicPASS which sounds too good to be true and now i have no idea! Does anybody have any advice on any of these resorts or experience with the EpicPASS and all the traveling it would be from place to place?? Any advice on accommodation in any of these places would be sick too!Cheers.

I've lived in Mammoth and Park City, been to CO a lot but never owned an epicpass............

Outta Mammoth and Park City I would surly pick Mammoth...............

How about if i were to get a pass for Alta or Solitude too? Still Mammoth? You gonna be out there this season? Cheers for the reply.

It really all depends on what kinda skiing you like................

Utah has it all, I'm not hating on SLC/PC at all, love it there!!............

But living in both Mamm (4+ years) and Utah (3+ years) I would pick Mammoth just because of the fun I had there and unlike Utah EVERYONE in mammoth is there to ride!!..................

I won't be living in Mammoth this season but a short drive north from there, I'm moving to Tahoe but will be in Mamm a few times a month.......................

I want to get as much powder/backcountry as possible but also would be heading to the park allot and just generally exploring the place. Sound about right for Mammoth? Hows the parking situation there too?Cheers for the reply man, may see you out there.

"Sounds about right for Mammoth?" Sure but the options are endless in Utah where Mamm has it all in one place...................

When it comes to quality of snow Utah is far better then Mamm.........

You get a 6 foot storm in Mamm and you ride 2-3 feet of it, get a 3-4 foot storm in Utah you ride 3-4 feet of it.................

When it comes to parks, PC has a new cat driver that worked for Mamm before working at PC and the last two years PC has worked their way back to the leader board but IMO Mammoth is a way more fun park to ride... Once again that is MY OPINION!!!..................

I agree with this guy. If you want to ski super dry pow Utah is where you need to go. They have good parks there but hell a rail is a rail. I say Utah and ski pc and canyons. Or Brighton. The pow will be undeatable

As said before, the snow in Mammoth is usually gonna be a bit wetter. Utah snow is consistently much more blower and enjoyable from dropping cliffs and such. What it all comes down to is what you prioritize more. If your waaay more stoked on park than pow, Mammoth would be prime. If pow is a no brainer over park, you may want to consider Canyons or one of the resorts in Little Cottonwood.

i have several belgian friends who move to mammoth every year for about 3 months, they really digg the place!

the skiing is going to be great in either place, especially if you are looking for a dope park. what it really comes down to is the type of scene you are looking for off the slopes. mammoth tends to be a more youthful, party oriented place while park city and the surrounding area tend to be a lot more quiet. utah has a lot of mormon influenced legislation that tends to inhibit one's ability to rage. if you are lookin to spend the season partying, go to mammoth. if you are simply looking for the best riding, utah has the best snow and like 8 amazing mountains concentrated in a pretty small area.

Sounds like either would do me pretty well to be honest in terms of riding, finding it easier to find accommodation in the Utah resorts rather than in Mammoth though. Anybody have any contacts/advice in either place? The youthful vibe of mammoth seems cool and what im after, not sure what you mean by ''mormon influenced legislation'' though? As in they have laws on how much you can drink/do??!
Cheers for the replies guys, appreciated.

I've Lived in Utah for a good portion of my life, I am not Mormon. Pretty often people tend to stereotype Utah by the Mormons, and to be completely honest there's a good chance you wouldn't even notice it.

Except from the extreme lack of African-Americans xD

And no there's no weird drinking laws or anything like that, that I am aware of....

This. I moved here in January and the mormon thing is so overblown. Yes, they're around. No, they won't affect the way you live your life. The only drinking laws concern the ABV of beer served in bars and stores, but you can still buy full strength at the liquor store and any brew pub. You can definitely rage in Park City on the reg (especially on Tuesdays...), and show up to any ski premiere or concert in SLC/Park City and everyone is bombed just like they would be anywhere else.

The only thing to consider is if you're trying to get a job at one of the resorts, I know some of them are not sponsoring foreign visas any more (I know this is the case for Deer Valley and PCMR). Other than that, Utah is the shit and I love living here.

regarding the mormon thing in utah, there are a few quirks that might bother the seasoned alcoholic. sure you can buy full strength liquor at the liquor store but from what i remember it is super expensive. i don't know the specifics of the liquor laws but there are definitely times and days where the sale of liquor is restricted...i believe after 10pm and on sundays. also, bars seem to shut down rather early. i was in park city for new years eve one year and new years day happened to be on a sunday...all the bars had to shut down by 1am, which i believe was still an hour later then they were supposed to close. don't get me wrong, park city has a party scene just like every other ski town in this country. i just feel like mammoth throws a better party.
