well usually if the download window pops up and asks you if you want to save/open it when its done, it will tell you what kind of file it is, and it will for sure have the file extension on the end of it in that little window if it doesnt tell you what kind of file it is
uTorrent, Bittorrent, vuze, off many different sites and on many different macs. Consistently .rar files have come in quite faster. I can get torrents to run great on PC's but never as fast as .rar's on a mac.
If im fucking up so hard allen, what do I need to do?
Not that this matters at all because I have never found anything that I couldnt get through just typing in .rar on google and pulling through rapidshare.
okay not sure if this has been mentioned...but mac doesnt use .exe that is probably why they wont open. you need to be looking for .dmg
once you have those they should open. your problem with torrents isthat you probably aren't opening ports to allow it to go quicker (very vague description i know, but search google about it and you will realize)
what about piratebay.org ... mininova.org ... both have dedicated mac sections i believe, and if they're going that slowly for you then just click 'seeders' on either site and they'll reorganize starting with whichever has the most seeders, which typically also means the quickest download time, although that can be subjective.
Trying to download a file right now. On average this is what the programs pulled in.
Transmission 10-20 kb/s
Vuze 5-15 kb/s
Bittorrent 12-20kb/s
At this point I gave up and found the file through rapidshare.
Now when I download .rar files
400-500 kb/s
Same sized file, read 6 minutes for .rar's, on average 1 hour and 45 minutes for torrents. As I am typing this I have a file downloading thats hitting an amazing 1.5 kb/s on transmission and says 2 days 5 hours.
I have a mac and use transmission, it works dope, you just need to find torrents with a bunch of seeders. I have a membership on demonoid and can find anything I want for macs
