Pick one of the places in the Caribbean, and get a sail boat. Sail bay to bay during the day.

Pick on where the islands are not a couple days apart.

This is a really good idea.
 
I did it last Christmas. Way better than skiing. My Uncle is big into sailing, so we were on his boat. You can rent sail boats or cats down there, from several companies. Pretty much impossible to fuck up on a cat if you don't know how to sail. Not as fast, but much easier to control.
 
I'd probably go for Liberia. Costa Rica provides beaches with surfing and diving, rainforest and cloudforest with an incredible biodiversity, and volcanoes to climb. Plus from Liberia you are within a few hours of some awesome parts of Nicaragua like San Juan del Sur, Granada and Ometepe Island. Nicaragua is stupid cheap and less Americanized than Costa Rica, and their Flor de Caña rum is incredible (especially for the price).

Alternatively I'd go for Cancun and hop on the overnight bus down into Belize. You get Mayan ruins and some of the best snorkeling/diving in the world, a mix of Latin American and Caribbean culture, lazy backpacker towns and fishing villages, and it's an English speaking country so everything is easy.

Uhhh.... no. San Francisco is not that special. I speak from experience, I am from there. Go somewhere tropical.
 
i think cozumel would be a sweet place to go and explore some mayan temples. why is myrtle beach even an option tho, don't go there.

yeah tbh, outside of the friends thing I don't really like SF all that much and I've lived my whole life only an hour away. I'd pick one of the more far out ones and hop around
 
Congrats on that W man, must work for a pretty decent co. No disrespect to anyone but you have all of those choices, don't choose SF. Hit one of those countries the beach boys sing about. Two weeks right? SF is cool for a ball game, or a bachelor party. Then you leave SF. Sincerely, Northern California resident.

My 2p (british version of 2c): I'd go to Liberia. Ireland is cool and if you spend a bit more you can get to the rest of Europe, but if you're going in the winter it won't be as much fun. Costa Rica on the other hand.... I went there a couple of summers ago, fucking loved it. You'd want to travel, you can get pretty much anywhere in a days driving and a good hotel in Manuel Antonio (here's the one we stayed at) makes the perfect end to a trip. Plus it's good all year round, dryer in our winter but it's quieter/cheaper at other times.

I wouldn't go to anything in the US or Canada, there'll be so many opportunities to get around them in the future and far fewer reasons to head for the tropics
