Where should I Mount these skis?

I’ve been riding Armada Halo 2’s for 7 years. They were mounted at true center. loved riding them but it was time to get something new. So I finally got myself a new pair of J Skis “The Vacations” they’re 104 underfoot, a flexy, all mountain freestyle ski.

the recommended mounting point for the vacations is -4 from center. This just feels too far back for me and I was wondering if you’d Guys recommend just going true center or Mount them somewhere in between like -2 from center. I ski all over the mountain, pretty aggressive skier on and off piste, powder when it snows, and decent amount of park/rails as well. I haven’t had to deal with mounting skis since I was 14 so not really sure what I should do. Cheers!

so you're asking for mounting recommendations whilst ignoring the recommended mounting option because you think it feels too far back? move them forward then? not sure what you're asking here dude

Jesus lmao. I’ve been on this platform for like 10 years and it’s still people like you who make Newschoolers fucking miserable. Alot of skiers Mount their skis to their personal preference despite the recommended mounting point. That’s what I’m asking here, bub. If you read the fucking post you’d see that I haven’t had to Mount skis for years and that’s why I’m asking.

Shoot J skis an email to ask about where their athletes mount them?

I'd say your fine mounting at -2 or 2.5 or so. No reason to center them as they aren't symmetrical.

-2ish is pretty common for a park focused but also all mountain capable ski. I wouldn't go true center and -4 will be amazing if you hit some sweet pow pow but I agree that -2 or -2.5 is a good balance

I would just stick with something I hate the people who do all mountain shit and a little bit of park and then ask about ski recommendations n shit

I’m fine with the people who buy 2 pairs of skis for if they wanna hit some pow and then got a set of park skis but it’s just the people who can’t make up their mind when they own 1 pair

Try punctuation. It can really help get your point across when using written communication.

If you could ski all day, park, trees, cliffs, etc and you never had to stop at the car.... Why and how would that be a bad thing? That's why every ski company makes a 100ish underfoot freestyle oriented ski lol. It's one of, if not the most popular genre in the ski market.

So a quick look on J's website and they are nice enough to give you the tip and tail length so that actually makes this easier.

They state a 440mm long tip and 395mm long tail for the 180cm model, so dead center between the hard snow contact points is 2.25cm behind dead center of the ski overall.

If it were me I'd probably go ~2.5cm back so it feels a hair behind center mounted on hard snow but floats better with a longer rockered section of tip, but that is my personal preference. They would probably be OK at dead center but it might ski like its a little forward mounted on hard snow which could be weird.

[tag=195966]@cydwhit[/tag] reviewed a pair in 2019 for Blister and said this:

"At -6 cm from center, The Vacation is a little less balanced in the air, but rewards a more forward stance. At -2 cm from center, it’s a blast in the park, it’s very easy to spin, but it doesn’t give up too much stability. Personally, I’d leave the bindings at -4 cm, but I don’t think anyone’s going to be frustrated if they move them forward or back a little to cater to their specific style."

TL;DR I think ~-2cm is a good fit based off your description and the geometry of the ski

Yeah, IDK how much they've changed in the last couple years, but none of the J's I've skied felt like moving the mount point screwed them up too bad. Mount 'em at -2 and be happy, or mount them at -4, and also be happy, while learning to ski a slightly more directional mounted ski.
