Where should I live this summer?

Classes get done early May, and resume second or so week of September. I've lived in Maine for 23 years and I've loved every second, but visiting Colorado last spring changed me. Loved Boulder so much and that's my #1 right now. So you read the title right, where should I live this summer? I'm open to suggestions, clearly.

Check out the PNW. Bend is dope and the Willamette Valley has tons of cool shit to see in the summer. If you've seen enough of CO for now I'd say explore the PNW for a summer or Montana as well.

Boulder, while bootiful, is blown tf out. I second the PNW, specifically Oregon. Forest, lakes, waterfalls, and rivers that absolutely shit on anything in CO.

And I love CO, born and raised here and lived most my life, but CO is a desert and the front range is crowded as fuck.

Ya I feel that, I kinda feel bad for the people that have lived in CO their whole life and have to watch their home bloat with outsiders.

the front range is not a good move imo. oregon, montana, or even a co mountain town are a good bet.

I've been looking at Whitefish and Kalispell for a while, the problem is it's hard finding a place that would lease for just 3 months. That's why I'm kinda looking for college towns to sublease in

Somewhere tropical or subtropical so you can be a beach bum.

Ya I could probably do that for a while, checking Hawaii on Zillow...

Truueee I hadn't thought about that

Here’s one of my goto websites for seasonal jobs.

https://www.coolworks.com/alaska-jobs

If you have a good vehicle, I’d say drive up (takes 5-6 days) spend the season and leave with a two-three week road trip through Canada and USA before school starts up again.

OP do it. Going to Alaska was honestly one of my best life decisions I’ve ever made.

One of my good friends did the summer up there last year, setting up camps or something like that? IDK but he said it was awesome and I had totally forgotten about that as an option...

They say this shit about everywhere these days. I kinda don’t wanna hear it anymore. Especially because I feel like mountain people move around more than anyone. For everyone that moves from CO to Tahoe someone does the reverse.

Be careful of punting on a big city once you get to a certain smallness your options slim down to service and part time shit.

Big boy career jobs often have similar jobs in the industry that are remote. Or you can be self employed if you know your shit. You can’t do that right now but it’s amazing what a couple years experience gives you with regards to knowing certain industries inside out.

All depends on what you want to do.

So many different job.

I've done my past 2 summers Steamboat. Steamboat lake specifically. The mountain biking, climbing, trails, and just about everything is sweet up there in the summer...in my opinion the prettiest place in Colorado behind maybe Telluride

What’s it like?

Salmon fishing at 2am but it is only dusk. Some of the most beautiful mountains on the planet, every turn you take is another postcard esque backdrop. Neon blue waters at the base of glaciers, beluga wales chillin' off the coast with sea lions and bald eagles. Grizzlies the size of honda cr-v's, and more open space to explore than you could shake a stick at. Ak is a special place, only downside is everything is really far away from everything, and it is kinda pricey compared to the lower 48.

Dude the garbage horders are absolutely insane. I've always wanted to make a calendar or a coffee table book called 'ugly alaska' and show the extremes of how people live when they get no social interaction and it is cold and dark most the time. Ak is the wild wild west, that is both a good and a very bad thing. I met people who grew up in the bush without SS numbers and shit.

Also, if anyone tells you to go to fairbanks, don't. Ain't shit up there.

I don't hate boulder, but you can do a lot better imo. That said it all really depends on what you're looking for

Thinking I might make a vote thread, bracket and everything. Whats your suggestion for a spot

I don't get it. If you have enough money to just go rent a place wherever with no job then why are you applying for jobs?

Move where you can find a good summer gig OP or just camp and travel around with no rent because you only really need a place with a shower and everything if you have a job

Crested butte, the san juans, I liked Aspen/snowmass a bunch. I've lived in Tahoe the last few years and dig it but I'm sure it's more of a shitshow in the summer.

Idk i dont hate boulder. I've hung out there a bit, but more in denver unless seeing music uo there. If you like the outdoors and want to be in that area maybe check out Ned. Cloer to the mtns but still not that far from Denver.

Idk I value having some small town vibe even if not that small and touristy at times.

Also boulder traffic can suck hard(even though same can be said for lots of places at the wrong time)

Ive never lived in the PNW but have heard good things. Montana, idaho, Wyoming have some cool areas.

Like I said though maybe you want to be closer to urban areas or really like boulder. I just feel like boukder might have been better 10-15 plus years ago but it seems overrun, not really special and kind of a shit show.

Also the biggest thing is, no move needs to be permanent. You can move to boulder and love it and not leave. You can move to boulder and visit other places and move there. You can move somewhere else randomly.

I love the northeast and always like going back but I've love living in CO and CA the last 5 or 6 seasons. I skip summer so I'm not really the best to weigh in. Although road tripped, visitied, and temp lived across CO, UT, CA in the summer with some PNW mixed in.

Regardless of where you end up, hope you enjoy it and find some great people to kick it with and have some adventures. The world is your friggin oyster or whatever, send it.

A summer gig is really all I'm looking for. I don't need a 40 hour/week internship or anything, I just want a job where I can make some money while also meeting some people to hang out with
