Gatorade is bullshit; its sugar water and salt.
Get your long term energy with Carbohydrates and fat. Breakfast time, have a couple eggs, bacon, milk, toast and peanut butter. Cereal is nothing but sugar and corn.
Get mid term energy with fruits and veggies.
Throughout the day, chew on granola bars, nuts and anything high in protein. You can use sweetened to start the reaction. Dont over do it on the sugar.
For staying awake, coffee is a great option.
Last is expend the energy. If you sit for more than 16 hrs a day, your body wont be efficient at processing glucose. Make sure to get at least 2 hrs of real physical activity per day to keep the metabolic system active.
