Where do We Think Style is Going to Go in the Next Few Years?

Style cannot continue to be "innovative" forever.

Like clothes, music, and art, styles and trends just form a cycle after a while. Coming from the boner-y land of moguls and ariels then morphing into thug style now almost hippy like stuff with people getting super flaily and wavy, freeskiing style has experienced a lot of evolution over its relatively short history.

I think the current trends in style will continue for a few more seasons but I think skiing might be heading back toward the thug zone, with guys like Jake Carney bringing it back with their own flair and innovation. I could be totally wrong though...

So what do we think comes next?

But really tho I think in the future there will be too groups coexisting with each other (Carney leading the charge with thugs and skiers like Jossi leading the hipster/tight pants) with people also in between with multiple styles all in one

I do want to see a strong return of thugs starting with Jiberish actually making good clothes like the old days

hopefully people will do tricks like it was in 2010 and people will dress with baggy stuff but not matching first drop suits

I hope it is just like this^

Well skiing is kinda going in that direction, the Bunches style is pretty similar to where snowboarding is today.

earlier this season i was hiking a rail and I watched some snowboarders hike a fucking rock. they would do hand plants on this god damn rock for hours. I seriously hope skiing does not turn into that

Sounds like my type of crew.

In regards to the question, it's hard to say. It is likely that known tricks will continue to be expanded upon in new and different ways. Lauri Kivari rides like he came back from the future, generally more styles like that I predict

I disagree that style cannot continue to be innovative. Style is subjective.

I have made a lot of observations this season:

Poles are going extinct. I can list the number of people who use poles at my home mountain on one hand (in the park that is). A large amount of notable park skiers no longer use poles, or use them rarely.

Underground skiers are also gaining popularity.

Skinny pants are still very prevelant.

Mainstream brands and products aren't as valued as "core" brands products by a large amount of consumers.

Skiing is going in a weird direction. Look at snowboarding and skateboarding, and you'll get a rough idea of what style and trend patterns will be in the near future. I do not think the thug era will be making a comeback any time soon. (But you'll never catch me in anything less than 3XL)

The snowboarders at my hill hauled tree stumps into the run and jibbed them all day... I mean, look at that rail that does it's job without sticking and is basically waiting to be hit.

Fuckers are still too ignorant to admit that their sport is whack.

How is that any different than someone hitting the same rails and jumps all day, some might think that gets boring and your "sport" is wack. The mountain outside the park has endless and always changing opportunities for creativity and finding a way to combine the two is where skiing should move towards IMO

You'll have the people that clamor for "09 Jiberish", you'll have people that cream their pants every time a "bunch bounce" is done, you'll have hood as fuck edits a la SIMPLE, but most of all, you'll always have comp skiers. Nothing will change, each section will continue to deviate itself from the others.

That WV park was the shit. 60 degrees and a giant table top.

Just more and more flamboyant mardi-gras crap, unless other stuff emerges where you can put up a 90s grunge soundtrack.

It's just gonna get more hesh. Supreme and black skinny pants will start becoming the norm. After all, Jossi wears supreme and skis in skinny pants, and he's seen as a god of skiing

Style does not have to be as limiting as we often make it out to be. You are describing style in a way that is similar to high-school stereotypes... the jock, the nerd, the gymnast, the band-geek, the goth, the rastaman, the hippy, the thug

Style will go where you let it go, especially in terms of theme skiing

Try skiing like a frog, or a bunny, the geico gecko, the michelin man, your russian grandma, donald trump, a librarian, a viking, kobe bryant, elvis, big bird, michael jackson, your local friendly policeman, lil wayne, derek zoolander, kurt cobain, kesha, mr. crab, squidward, patrick star.... actually anyone from the Spongebob cast should provide good inspiration, maybe start there if you're having trouble finding yourself

I'm not saying we should turn skiing into a big game of larp, but the amount of creativity that is accessible in terms of style is infinite and we shouldn't limit ourselves to basic categorizations. In terms of theme skiing, I definitely think a

Squiddy Trump/ Grandma Hillary/ Uncle Bernie day should be planned out for next season. Not to make any sort of political statement, just as a hilarious day of envisioning yourself as one of those characters and trying to live it out on skis - bringing some white house vibes to the hill.

The way life works on and off skis, is that people see things they like and then try to make them their own/ incorporate those things into their own style. Sometimes it goes too far and you just end up with straight copy cats, but I've begun to appreciate that life is the most fun when you are surrounded by people who are unique in terms of their style and personality instead of everyone thinking and acting the same way like a bunch of basic conformist sheep.

One last thing. Style is a mix of both how you dress and how you act/ ski. To really embrace a new style, these two things should go hand in hand.

Its blowing up,

as more people grow to love freestyle the more you have two types of skiers

those who copy styles

and those who just ski

for a while now people have been saying that they hate how people try to copy styles and theres no denying that people copy each other, but at a certain point they aren't copying they re just skiing and its weird how skiing looks like someone else skiing too.

like i said theres no denying that you get grooms who come up sending it, buying all the new stuff, getting mad good and copying certain styles and making the same edit over and over,

but style is really just about who you are skiing with and if you do something that looked good ur friend will give you a compliment

skiers shouldn't have to worry about having good style, and they also shouldn't worry about copying other people's style.

In summary

there are so many different possible tricks out there, and a lot of tricks that have been done, and everyone should be allowed to do tricks that have been done before along with think of new stuff
