Every now and then you'll see some of the following season's gear available at retail toward the end of the current season, but that's extremely rare. Mostly you won't start seeing inventory in shops until next fall. Brands that are debuting gear in the normal January time frame usually haven't started mass production beyond salesmen and athlete samples. They often haven't even finished selling it in to shops yet. Trade shows like SIA and ISPO used to exist for this exact purpose - literally taking orders from shops and buyers for your new product so you know how much to make over the summer in order to deliver in the fall.
