What's Your Most Expensive Alcohol Purchase?

I'm not talking bar bills at the end of the night or grocery bills from 30 cases of natty.

I'm talking what is the most you've paid for either a single drink at a bar/restaurant or individual bottle from the store. All categories of alcohol are included.

I know we got some rich fucks on here. Let's hear who we are gonna rob.

I spent like 400 on a bottle of Ace of Spades Rose when I was visiting my friends in Houston

$30 for a shot of Clase Azul blanco tequila, worth every penny

I'm not sure what I've spent most on for a bottle of tequila or bourbon.. It was probably in the $70-$80 range for a barrel finish or something similar

Sometimes I'll spring a barrel aged beer, that adds a few bucks to a sixer. At the end of the day good beer costs far less than bad wine.

Their tequila is fucking good...a sipper. I've only had the resposado... I guess that's the most expensive liquor I've bought. Got my brother it for a b day gift

2 drink minimum at a strip club in Vegas on Fremont street, $24/Bud Light. Spent $144 on 6 beers between 3 of us. Live and learn.

I would never do it but at Rita’s in Breck they have Patron Burdeos for a cool $78 per shot.

I like to get the best bang for my buck so I’m pretty cheap. I’ll literally be doing math at a brewery lol. My thoughts: if $6 gets me a 16 oz Pilsner at 5.3% is that better than the $8 12 oz Imperial India Pale Ale at 9.7%?

Went to a Rolling Stones concert when they did their last tour here and beers were $19 each for a 24 oz of Budweiser.

Not gonna lie, thats about the standard price in the NYC area at this point.

Yeah I'm super in to sipping tequilas right now. Have you tried 818? Delicious

On the opposite end, I was in Manhattan Kansas for my sisters college graduation and we went to a bar and I got 2 vodka soda limes for me and this chick. Went to pay with a card and they said there was a $5 minimum. I was like oh sorry I said 2 of them and the bartender was like yeah they're $2 each. I was mind blown. ?

I love surprises like that. First time I went to one of my local bars I was shocked at $3 craft pints. Another place in downtown Boise will occasionally do $1 PBR pints which might be the best beer deal I've found.

i bought a bottle of don julio 1942 a little while ago and it was like $180 at the liquor store

Same. Got turned onto that stuff in Mexico, plus the bottle is crazy looking

My buddy and I bought a bottle of absinthe a while back and put about an eighth of weed in it to soak for a few months. That shit was unreal but the total cost was prob the most I paid on booze.

One time i was lappin 5 chair at breck and a guy pulls out a heady topper. Has a few sips and some random guy in line was like yo is that a heady topper?! I’ll give you $20 for the rest of it.

$20 for 3/4s of someone elses beer seems excessive lol.

i got fucked in Baja last winter. Paid 80 bucks for four tequila shots at a tequila bar, tried to dash and the bouncer called the cops on us. Some of friends down there with us paid around 280 for a bottle of patron at a club. Long story short drink before you go out in Baja boys

Can't you only buy that in VT tho? Or maybe did it used to be like that? That's a sought after beer but personally, meh.

For personal consumption, a $70.00 bottle of red wine. I can see that number going up as I drink more wine.

Got me a bottle of Yamazaki 12 year single malt recently. 25000¥

Really good whiskey but not my favourite - of which cost about 20% as much

Individual drink? Probably paid like 50$ for a glass of Tallisker 20 or 25 year single malt that tasted like pure black tar heroin and felt like it too... that was years ago I'm not sure which it was.

Brother in law ordered a $150 bottle of wine at a restaurant and we split the check so I guess that counts. Was not worth $150

Yeah especially then. I’ve seen it a handful of times in CO since but never twice at the same store.

I’m totally on team focal banger over heady topper though.

I initially read this as $25,000 and was like dayuuuuuum lol

But Talisker is the shit. Oldest I've had is 18 and it's ?... Not for everyone but definitely my favorite brand (I'll take over Macallan any day). Gotta be careful in bars and restaurants tho; they often break the rules for storage and I'd be worried about light changing the whisky. Seen too many bars with their entire selection in front of a glass window.

Haha yeah when I bought it I was like 'check me out I'm dropping 25 G's on some sip!'

Maccallan still has some whiskies that are freakin good... It's just very different from an Islay or Skye or campbelltown whisky...

My dad is way more into the highland and Speyside stuff, and always has his cabinet full of Glenlivet or Balvenie which are honestly nothing to complain about.

We supply malt to some of these distilleries. They are literally 60 mins from my house and I have yet to go tour them. I will get it done before I head back to the states.

That stuff is sold that at 711 now.

Imo it quickly hits a point where it isn't worth it and is more a flex or knowing you spent a certain amount which can make the experience drinking it better.

There's a lot of good midrange bourbons etc that I like. Idk. I'd have to be making a stupid amount of money to want to spend more than 60 bucks on a bottle really ever.

That said people can spend their money however they want.

There's a whole weird thing with those. My friends used to bring cases and sell them for 10 bucks at shows around the country. I always hated the hype. It's a good beer but whatever. I traded one for a switchback at a show once. I think someone gave me another later anyway.

Idk i hate when things are made to be limited to drive up the hype. I get it, it just turns me off of the whole thing.

I gave a heady topper to a homeless dude in syracuse outside a phish show. They were already on I wasn't gonna chug the thing. Hope he enjoyed it.

Good beer overhyped. Not worth 20. That said maybe the guy had never seen one, or only had it once. Could have bee. His only chance. If there's a beer you really want and cant get, and 20 isn't a huge issue i could see it.

I'd rather buy something else personally but whatever.

100%, especially with wine.

Reminds me of when me and my buddy stumbled into a champagne bar in Chicago that was above a bar we were in earlier. Smokes everywhere. OK we sit down and open the bar menu. Cheapest item- $40....for a taste (wtf is a taste)....not even a glass....one of the few places I've ever up and left without spending a cent.

I will say, whiskies do vary A LOT depending on their age in the barrel. It's night and day, especially if you're comparing side by side. They still have a threshold though where quality stops and it becomes a status thing. You can also find cheaper ones that perform just as good or marginally less than ones twice the price.

Oh for sure. But I was looking more at the price to what you make. With food or anything too.

I just don't feel it's worth the slight increase in quality for significantly more $. Special occasions with friends sure, splurge.

There's def quality stuff you can find at a price point that works.

12 euros or so for a 0.5L Grolsch beugel on the ferry to Corsica (normally 4.50 for 4). I hitchhiked there for fun, but it had been a long warm day so it was totally worth it..

On topic: Some special Japanese whiskey..

Kinda makes me wanna grab a bottle of Hibiki

I've spent more but a memorable naive moment was my first g&t order at Grand Targhee.

Had just turned 21 not too long before and went to get a g&t. Asked what gin I wanted. Me being a big noob just said "uhh Hendricks please" since I knew that was something I'd had once before.

Bill comes.

17$ for a single g&t. All that went through my head was "Damn that's like the same price as two fiths of Burnett's"

Mad sure to order bottom shelf after that.

Hibiki is pretty solid - its a really good blend... but not my favourite.

Personally, I think Nikka's "From the Barrel" is even better... that stuff is fuckin subarashii. Reaaally good stuff.

And if you can find it for the same-ish price as what you can find it for in Japan, Nikka Rare Old Super is absolutely class for the price... It should be less than half the price of either Hibiki or From the Barrell or any other blended Jhiskey, and it's awesome. In Japan you can get it in almost any 711 or whatever for like 20$ or less - it's obnoxiously good for the price.

Honestly, that doesnt surprise me at all - Hendricks usually calls for a premium price almost anywhere. Personally, I find it a liiittle bit overrated - even if it is a pretty good mother's ruin...

But unless youre getting a straight martini or something else where the actual herbal profile of the gin is well exposed, there's little reason to go hendricks. if it's mixed with tonic, Gin is Gin. Whatever is in the well will suit the majority of drinkers just fine.

Whiskey and Gin are my go-to's and I tend to stick with them for my drinks... But I generally have just two Gins on my shelf... a mid-tier and a bottom tier - one for martinis and one for literally everything else. Currently, it's a bottle of cheap but excellent Nikka wilkinson gin for mixed stuff, and a bottle of Roku Gin for clean martinis. Both are great for martinis in all honestly.

In the US, I'd probably go with a bottle of either Gordons or Beefeater for mixed stuff, and a bottle of Sapphire or Hendricks for 'tinis based on availability. You can definitely find Roku as well, since Suntory usually goes wherever Jim Beam goes. Probably costs about the same as a bottle of Hendricks but is a little different. Highly rate it if you've never had it.

I honestly see little reason to get anything really expensive when it comes to Gin... Like Vodka, the law of diminishing returns applies SUPER hard in the case of Gin. If you're paying over 30-40$ for a 750ml bottle, then youre just spending money to spend money. You arent getting anything better for what youre actually going to use it for.

And on that note, the most expensive gin I ever had was a glass of Nolets that I had on the house because I know people... ;) and while it was really damn good, I am not usually someone who wants to sip on Gin neat... even if I want it as dry as the martini glass it's in.. like most people I enjoy pairing it with other flavours to blend a profile, even if thats just a citrus twist.. so there's really zero reason to spend 750$ on a bottle of sipping gin IMHO since I'm gonna throw at least a LITTLE somethin somethin on it...

Lol, knew this was gonna be in this thread when I opened it.

For me, technically a keg is a single bottle...

I've only ever paid for bottle service a handful of times personally, but I've watched dudes not even flinch at $3k bottles of goose and it's gone in 20 mins. Those nights are so aggressive.

Ye I did that too. And it is. But those drinks aren't the dumbest thing I've ever spent money on. Once your there you get the "why the fuck not" feeling. It's only a pair of skis for a night I barely remember. I'm sure people have spent more on coke for a weekend.

Ugh, lets not go there.lol I spent all my college money on meth when I was 18. 4 years of school payment up my nose in matter of months.
