What's your favorite state/province etc... and why?

Last erupted 1852. "Dormant" does not mean "dead." And ten feet of mud is about as understated as you could get. We're long overdue for an eruption.

I'm just a northeast kind of guy. More specifically, New York. Fucking beautiful upstate and the city is pretty cool too. Vermont is amazing as well. More specifically, Jay Peak haha.

you have no idea what you are talking about. when people talk about 4 seasons, its the fall and spring that differ from everywhere else. you only mentioned 2 seasons. most places in the u.s have the 2 seasons you said, but the northeast has a real fall and spring. we have cool temps and foliage for a good 2-3 months, while in the northwest, you get snow too early to have a fall and the snow stays too long for you to have a real spring like the northeast, where it is 40 -50 degrees with a good amount of rain from late march to early june. in the northwest, you really only have a summer and winter compared to the northeast.

but if new england were a state, it would be the best. we would have lots of cities, big mountains, nice lakes and rivers, good skiing, great surfing with nice beaches, and the best sea food. but i wouldn't mind if ny and nj joined and possibly pa. plus the northeast makes the more gdp than canada and any other region in the u.s.

Colorado is the best place I can live in the US with my profession so I have a pretty big bias to Colorado. Denver is fast becoming one of the premier cities in the US and is doing a lot to improve public transportation and other services. The people are very cool in Colorado for the most part and there is a great music scene. Not to mention the natural beauty, skiing, and diversity of landscape; everything from open planes, to dense forest, to sand dunes.

If I could live anywhere though I would probably choose from a couple of places in Europe or BC Canada. Vancouver was an awesome city and Whistler was also very tight. However it is completely overrun by Australians and house music. I really liked Budapest, Finland, Germany, and parts of Spain. It would be pretty easy to live in Europe.

Never been to Australia, heard that is pretty awesome so I will have to check that out. Also no offense but I hate the East Coast of the US. My dads family is from there so I have spent a fair amount of time in Mass, New York, and Maine. Maine is pretty great with the lakes but the people on the East Coast think they are the center of the Universe. People there thought I was a hick from Colorado and showed their bias. Most of them have never been west of Pennsylvanian. Plus I felt like no one had any patience and everyone dives like a mother fucker.

That doesn't make the east cost a bad place. We are just generally more proud of where we are from and we drive with urgency. also what does it matter if we haven't been west pa? it costs a lot of money to travel west.

1, the bad of spokane definitely out weighs the good.
2. fishing on the spokane river is actually highly recommended my area fly shops. and you arent fishing right down town im talking about up and down river. the only decent spot is the aquifer but fish in there are disgusting. and the parks department has no jurisdiction out of city limits so your an idiot for saying they do stuff all the way to montana.
3. maybe your right.
4. your again an idiot. spokocompton is one of the most down trodden sad cities ive ever seen. translating into an extremely high crime rate, poverty rate, and HIV rate among other things. I lived in logan and there definitely is plenty of hood. there are also 180 sex offenders within a mile of gonzaga campus. considering that that mile radius on the city side is taken up by downtown and not very many places to live that means there is a rediculous amount in the logan/hamilton/division areas.

Well im from NYC So with that bein said of course im going to have to rep it. and once you go into upper new york state its just like new hampshire and vermont.

But if i could live anywhere i would probably say california..where can can you surf, skate and ski all in the same day?

no hate, but have you been to eastern washington?

we definitely have fall and spring.

in the mountains we have snow from late october to late may - early june

in town, we have snow periodically late november-early march

you mad
We didnt have a summer this year, and didnt have a fall, that's for damn sure.
Having been born in Chicago, lived in colorado for a very short time, and traveled to nearly every state in the US, I can safely say that I hate Minnesota. I hate 90% of the people, 80% of the drivers, 100% of the weather, 100% of the cities, the food, night life, politics, etc. I hate it all. I know im gonna get flamed for that but oh well
colorado is ftw, and chicago has so much soul to it and so much things to do, all Minnesota has got is Al franken and spam.

word. i might have been generalizing a bit too much. i am sure there are plenty of towns away from the mountains with 4 seasons, but one of the things the northeast is known for is its distinct 4 seasons.

you must just live in the wrong part of the cities ;)

very true this fall sucked, but ide say for the most part Fall is pretty awesome here.

Ive been to about 40-45 states and honestly unless im in the mtns of utah or colorado, i really like where i live.

I spent a month in FL and that was enough, i could to a month there every year, and otherwise i need change..

one place that i dont think has been mentioned is the Smokey Mtn national park area of TN and NC.. its beautiful there. just less than amazing skiing, but the scenery is unbelievable

i agree, not one person knows what the hell they are doing behind the wheel in this state. our first little snow storm i heard on the news that it caused something like 500 crashes. redonkulas... haha

I give up. It's not worth it when I have to defend my points against such ignorance.i have trouble describing the weather. And, "big mountains, nice lakes and rivers, good skiing, great surfing with nice beaches and the best seafood." Wow.

1. Big mountains? No. Just no. Go to the Cascades, go to the Selkirks, go to the Bitterroots, go to any other mountain range.
2. Lakes/Rivers? You have no idea. Do you have one of the deepest lakes in the US with a 300 mile long shoreline? I can't even describe Lk. Coeur d'Alene and Lk. Pend d'Oreille in words.
3. Good skiing? You don't know. The Northwest might not be the best, but it's pretty good in general. The diversity of skiing experiences is what sets us apart.
4. Surfing? Go to California. That's surfing. And now I'm just defending the West as a whole. Beaches? California.
5. Seafood? Go to Pike's Place Market in Seattle. You haven't even truly experienced seafood until you've gone and eaten in Seattle.

To the person who said Spokane is a dump, I'm sorry your experience here has been less than what you hoped for. A lot of the time people try to look in the wrong places. Which is typical. Some people just don't like the town. I get it. I'm really speaking not so much for Spokane itself as for the whole inland Northwest (southern B.C., eastern WA, northern ID, western MT). That region has more than I could ever ask for.

^

1. that was a normative statement so big can be 100 ft. i dont give a fuck. and i dont care how big another mountain is, so if i say that mountains in northern new england are big, than i think they are big and you cant change my opinion.

2. a lake or river doesnt have to be the deepest and biggest to enjoy it

3. i didnt say the pwn didnt have good mountains. so stop bitching

4. i have surfed cali plenty of times and rhode island has more spots in a closer area so you can find better waves easier in ri. and cape cod, ri, nh, maine, long island, and the jersey shore all have nice sand beaches. who gives a shit if cali does too.

5. new england is known for the best sea food, so shut the fuck up. and seatle isn't even on the coast.

6. the northeast has cities.

YO QUEBEC owns. drinking age= 18 years old, party people everywhere, poutine, 4 seasons, and last but not least, the HOTTEST women.

you are debating who has the most legit 4 seasons without mentioning spring or fall... everyone has winter and summer. As for windchill everyone else can suck mt washington's dick.

They hate other Canadians a lot too. Hell, French Canadians are disliked at least by most Canadians, Americans, and French (France French) people.

Also, I will take a French girl over French Canadian any day of the week.

Before I was 21, I would have totally agreed with you, but today, I would respectfully have to say that I am glad there are not 18 year olds at the bars.

BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA. ITS SOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL. WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

CANADA, FUCK YEAH!

I gotta say the one I live in is my favorite as well as my least favorite.

VERMONT

pros-

- good skiing

-not a bad summer

-extremely loose gun laws

cons-

-harsh winters

-hippies

-no beaches

I have a buddy from spokane and he brags about it so much. Anytime anything comes up about places or where we all grow up, he interupts with spokane this spokane that. Something about hippes and a big goat that everyone feeds. Oh yeah, and a huge sled you kind slide down. Sound about right?

Maybe....
If 18 year olds had the chance to drink themselves in to a toilet at a bar.....after the 4th or 6th time they might simmer down.

My favorite chuck of land would have to be Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and the Dakota's. Basically the whole intermountain west; except the east slope of colorado those water stealing motherfuckers. In these states there are wide open spaces where you can do what ever the hell you want to and the only consiquence are the elements involved; true freedom, the last stronghold of the american west.

I am just worried that more people will continue to move into these states expanding urban areas. If we dont hold onto rural areas than America will have lost its sense of freedom.

Correction:

I am glad that there are not 18 year old dudes at the bar...

It is bull shit that you can't drink till 21 in the US. We need stricter DUI laws and to get rid of the 21 yo drinking age.

I came up with this law. If you are over 17 and you graduate high school you get a horizontal license and can drink. If you don't graduate you have to wait till you are 21. Its the perfect law.

So it's looking like the PNW is taking the lead on this one as the best area in the world ever

BC

WA

OR

we're all so close to each other that you can go back and forth as you please. not just the place to be for the winter too. come summa time....

pssshhhhh

cracka-lackin big booty smackin

Rhode Island. I love Newport County, and Providence. It's so nice down in Newport and I love the upper class community. I would be saying Colorado, Utah, somewhere cool like that but I haven't been there yet.

bring on the hate for being generic but,i truly love colorado more than any other state.not only because i spent 13 amazing years growing up there but because nothing else i've seen compares. sure other states have their highs and proud features but everytime i leave colorado i cry because i can't find what i have there in any other place. stand at the bottom of the mountains and look up on a summer day and you can truly appreciate natures beauty for all that it's worth. when the snow falls it's the most beautiful scene. colorado has so much to offer and it's honestly my favorite place on this earth.

brother you dont have to come in hatin like this.

i like spokane.

maybe you don't, thats cool, nobody gives a shit.

where are you from?

im sure i can find reasons to hate on there too.

BC = Hot girls, Cypress whistler big white and some other mountains, great fishing, great snow and good weed and surfing in tofino is supposed to be good

Agreed. So many awesome parts of the state and so much to do. You can ski all year if you work for it (Its pretty easy to make it into July with little to no work)

Hard to pick just one. I've been to 50+ countries, and there's something interesting in all of them. But here are my choices.
Despite its numerous problems, I still love California, especially the Eastern Sierras and yes, SoCal. It's diverse, people don't always get along, but it's complicated, crazy, and wonderful. Not too many places where I can drive from the ritzy beach to the grit of Compton in 20 minutes, and eat a different cuisine for each meal for a week.
Oregon, because that's where I grew up. On a very clear day, you can see 5 volcanoes from Portland. And the volcanic stuff near Bend, McKenzie Pass, Sisters, LaPine, is one of a kind. Lots of hidden treasures and an incredible diversity of landscapes.
And Northern New Mexico / CO, because I've been spending a lot of time there recently, and there's something about the landscape, the light, and its mix of cultures. Seeing the area after a winter storm starts to clear is breathtaking.
For Canada, I'd choose BC. Vancouver is one of the world's great cities, the food and nature rock. And just by looking at the mountains north of the city, you realize that it's the beginning of a wilderness that stretches for hundreds of miles.
And hell, I'll toss in Europe. My pick would be Austria for the Alps, the nice mix of the high culture and mountains. I like Innsbruck, for having the mountains literally within walking distance, the historic old town, and having hot, outdoorsy guys :-).
