whats with volkl?

what the hell is with volkl? first, they switch the best big mountain ski ever (2002/03) v-explosive with the TWINTIP, with a square tailed all red, gay looking ski. second, they make the gotama with messed up sidewalls so the wood rots, and third, they changed the dope graphix of the 02/03 v-pros. thats gay!

The V-Pros were ugly as hell last year, much in the same way they are ugly as hell this year. Would you rather have a chick with chicken pox on your skis, or some 2 year olds drawing on your ski? But do you really buy skis because of the graphics on them?

But the Gotamas are sick.

 
I just started working at a ski store and the Volkl line is pretty fruity looking. It doesn't look very hardcore.

i highly doubt that a powder ski would have wood sidewalls that wood rot. What aare you talking about? It's clearly special treated wood. Volkl wouldn't do that. The gotma looks like a sick ski. As for the others, i totally agree..

this is such a frequent debate,, i would like to think that good skiers always choose skies based purely on how a ski skis,, but lets be honest,, it is really nice to have a good looking pair of skis,, last years explosiv for example,, the bomb,, but hey whatever,,

 
The tails on last years explosives were so little they were only good for fakie on groomers, and the skis are too heavy for park, so it's not a big deal that they took the tail off. I think the gotama was a good idea, even though it may be too big for jibbing. I'm going to demo them this year, and if I like them I will buy them. I just hope they are as stiff as the explosives.

ya the gotamas are a powder ski, and you can see wood on the sidewall which i think is sweet as hell. BUt do you honestly think volkl would have made it like that where they would allow it to rot?? of course not im sure they put some coating over it dont be so dumb

First of all the wood on the sidewall is basically just for looks, has nothing to do with the core or anything. Personally I think the gotama looks pretty sweet, but thats just me. Next time you post about a ski rotting, get your facts straight first.

 
I cant believe ppl are bitching about the quality of volkls.

Sure the graphics are awful and the bases have ugly colours too but hell, they are the best ski I've skied on for park. the expressions and pros are my fav ski, along with the new scratchs, and PEs (aint skied the 4frnt or armada yet though, seen them not skied 'em)

the explosive is a nutty ski. for me it gave me the perfect hover spot in powder. there is still some twinnage but its nothing to worry about. if u take the explosive in the park ur wasting ur time!. and the gotamas will not rot unless u carve a significant cut that goes along the wood and deep. the gotamas are a pure BC ski, if u use it for anything else ur dumb.

i have skied volkls for 4 years now and they are sick it is a sad day when a little prick like you does not appreciate that volkls are one of the highest quality ski companys out there

i can garantee you that the wood core will not rot, i have never heard of a ski rotting. the core is protected with layer of fiber glass or somesort of synthic materials. if you are talking about the old wooden ski, yea, but recent ski, no.

yupp volkl makes high quality stuff, and i dont think the sidewalls on the gotama will rotten they would never design them that way if they would.

but this years V Expressions looks nice in my eyes dont like the dimensions of the ski thought

do decks rot in the winter? no, it's really easy to have wood that doesn't rot. and wood provides really good dampening and it holds up well to abuse (it'll dent not crack)

wow cracks more than foam, thats a basic concept. the wood used in 4frnts is maple I think, its moist enuf so cracking and splitting is limited. the volkl use that power core thing, shit I just forgot the name, its a moist thing too. which is why the volkls are heavier than most skiis, stiff too.

I hate the graphics on the expressions. a bball and a DJ? WTF? I wanna scrape the graphic off and put a new one on, but not allowed...

i love my v-expressions. theyre last years skis, all white with a bit of red splattered on, and a big black v. its almost as if armada took ideas from the v-expression with the whole paint splatter thing...

do you people not listen or something? the wood sidewall on the gotamas is cosmetic, meaning it has no use. It doesn't rot, and even if it did, it serves little to no purpose.

 
volkl is just too racing inspired they put most of their design money in race and performance carving skis not in twintips.

volkl is not race inspired, they are skiing inspired. their skiis perform great. which means u can have one pair of skiis for almost everything. expressions for park, pipe, carving, bumps. its great that way u dont know anything about volkl scratch jr

volkls are serious skis period these little dicks think armadas and salomens are the best out there, and they are good but other ski companys like volkl make some sick shit to just look at volkls team

I give them props for hucking their meat, but I want to kill myself every time I see a back flip japan grab be it over a 100 foot gap or not. I just think it's idiotic that they have gotten so far in skiing, and they have possibly the whackiest style in the industry. Double back-flips have no place in this sport. Even if they are over a 300 foot gap, they are ugly, and dumb looking.

Just my opinion, and it's probably not going to change.

So... I just ordered the Gotama's and I am pumped. I am going to use them for mostly backcountry, and a little all mountain type stuff. As far as the Collins brothers thing goes... They are both very talented and their knowledge and skill in the backcountry is top notch. They are not trying to be like Tanner or C.R. they are skiing how thy like to ski.

volkl is fucking sick... the gotama is hell...yeah, the graphix suck, but the skis are really high qualîty shit... and they've got kids on the team like lars veen from norway who is stompin cab cork 1260s tail in comps ... and he's 16!!!

dont be fooled they are not sold out now. there are a hundred or so in stores across the continent. just know that if u get them u need another pair of skiis for regular skiing on the mountain

I like the Gotama. An all black ski I think they look better that way as for the rest of them I dont really care for. Its how they ski though not how they look. As for the wood core it would not rot cause if it did they have alot of people returning them. They have been making skis for alot longer than some companies out there and that would stupid of them on their part.

As for the Collins bros they were one of the first new companies out there to really promote the sport they way they see it. I dont feel they have hurt the sport at all. TGR is the first filming company out there that would film the rider as he skiing his run instead of running various clips. They changed the way ski movies are filmed. They really cool to work with too.

Im not knocking Warren Miller or Barrymore but if you watch those old movies you see the skier close up. No one else did cinematography the way TGR does.
