What's up with my knees?

Ill try to make a short history of whats been going on with my knees, maybe you guys can already tell me whats up with them, before i get some expert advice when i get back home. Ive already had them checked out by a regular doctor once a few years ago but he didn't seem to think it was very serious.

When I was younger i never worried about hard and/or flat landings or anything, I just did it all and probably didn't land square most of the time, I guess the problems started then. Back then i was skiing bi-weekly and every time after training my knees were so sore that i had to walk stairs like a 70 year old.

Nowadays i can only go skiing like one or two weeks a year, and never have knee problems when i dont ski. The only thing noticeable is a loud cracking noise when squating (on the way back up).

So now i'm in Austria for a week and after my first day, no jumps just hard charging and bc, my knees are already starting to complain on the stairs. Its not really limiting my skiing, but i do notice them a lot when i have to absorb landings or bumps. They do feel really brittle when im in the slush. As for jumps i try to stay away from hardpack landings, I can do bc booters with soft landings without a prob but still it will cause my knees to hurt at the end of the day.

So now the question is, whats the most likely diagnose, and whats a possible solution?

possible meniscus damage since you hear a click/pop when crouching down and your meniscus is the shock absorber for your knee get it checked out by the doc for sure

Well you need to know the exact problem first, There may be other options available to you.

isnt there like a vitamin or somethin like joint medicine that you can get at a vitamin shop thats good for your joints??thats what i wanna do cause i think im gunna have bad knees when im older too cause when i just bend my knee fully it cracks everytime on both knees and i know i beat on them cause ill ride hard all day and take like a little break and ive been skiing since i was 4

dude, if your having knee issues get it check out by your doc asap.. i blew out my ACL and tore my meniscus in three places this year and im still skiing on it against docs orders but from the info that i got if you have a small meniscus tear it can continue to tear and become a bigger problem quite easily.. If it is your meniscus and its only minor usually they fix it orthoscopicly and just shave off the frayed peices and your back in action real quick but if you let it go and it ends up being a bigger tear that needs repair you have up to 6 weeks of no weight baring after surgery and then months of recovery.. im keeping my fingers crossed for myself but best of luck to you to man.

damn! thanks for that info mann i never knee that just like how i didnt know breaking your wrist is soo easy and common cause i broke mine once the first time i tried to snowboard and well yah thats when i decided to stick to skiing its much easier and funner. and i will definetly ask my doc next time but i dont really have problems hurting anything it just kinda cracks when you feel my knee when i bend it totaly but u cant hear it or anything. thanks again

im guessing maniskis poblem because this happened to me and i went to my dr to have it cheacked out and i have to get serjery because i tore mine

the cracking makes it seems like it's some meniscus problem.. you should def get it checked out.. do your mri.. cuz if it's meniscus tear well u get surgery and u can be back in 4-6 weeks so it's definitely worth it!

I have a similar problem. My knees hurt a lot when I ski, and pretty much everything else, especially when I bend down/squat to pop for rails. If I bend down far enough they make a lot of crackling noises, that doesn't hurt that much, but it hurts a bit afterwards.

After a day of skiing they feel pretty bad and sometimes become swollen. It sucks soooo much since it has been a problem for over a year, and it has been getting in the way of almost everything physical now.

man sry to hear bout the knee problems..

skiing is harsh on the knees.

def get it checked out..nvr to late than sry

the more u ride and try to ignore it

can just make things for ur ski life worse in the future

how old are you? because a couple of years ago my knees started to kill really bad when i did any physical activity then i grew like 6 in. and my knees felt fine and way stonger than before. so best case scenario it could be a growth spurt.

thats extremely weird because I did the EXACT same thing, tore my acl and three tears in the meniscus, still skiin against doctors orders.. but to the thread start I bet its the meniscus because mines been tore for years before i just got it fixed and the same exact thing happened to me... luckily I finally blew it out so I could get it fixed

Thanks for all the advice, im 29 now and ive been having this since i quit competition skiing when i was like 16. I never had it checked out properly cause the first doc acted like it was nothing special just wear & tear. And during the year i never had problems with it, i can even do 400lbs deadlifts without a prob, but when start skiing, charging or jumping they start acting up.

The squating indeed only makes noise, it doesn't really hurt, its just when walking stairs and skiing that it hurts..

So yea.. I'll get some expert advice asap when i get back.
