WHATS THE POINT OF 18/20 DIN

I’ve thought abt this a lot like all season and I nor anybody I know can actually find a valid reason/need for 18 din does anyone on Newschoolers know??

Supposedly you aren’t supposed to run your dins within a couple below the max, so if you really run em high (12-14) the release is much less consistent if you’re on bindings that can only go up to 13

Yes but no. Its more sketch to run a binding at it's lowest setting due to the lack of tension in the spring at such a low DIN. Running a DIN high is siding on retention 99% of times

I just crank my 18s so my skis never come off when I’m doing my sick stunts. Release is for when you crash and I never crash, nerd

I’ve talked to a few techs and they all say the binding sweet spot is bs. A pivot 18 binding releases just as well at 8 vs say 13

With modern bindings, the entire DIN range is valid. You don't need to avoid the extremes and you don't need to turn down your DINs at the end of the season.

FIS level ski racing, but really can't think of anyone else who'd be running 18+ dins

This…

I believe if you lose a ski you’re automatically DQ’d.

A lot of racers crank DIN’s to 18 just for a race and then drop them back down.

Pivots we’re originally race bindings remember… free-skiers merely adopted the pivots.

People are so bonkers thinking you have to run your dins in the middle. You realize how much of a liability these companies would have if it was more likely to fail if you run your dins at WHAT THEY LIST IT AT.

Facts. Why would they make them with DINs that don’t actually work? They’d just make more models with different DIN ranges.

Yeah it's a lot easier to find a ski in the pow when there's a leg still dangling from it.

There are guys who ski shit where if they fall, they're fuckin dead anyways so they crank their bindings because pre-release is also a good chance of death. Watch Jeremie Heitz in La Liste for example.

Reine Barkered cranks his pivots to 17 apparently

he also dies if he looses a ski, dude is nuts. but if hes at 17 we should all ski less eh? ;)

I recently lost a ski carving through some stuff with dins at 12 in a race binding, but getting hit in boot wit dins at 10 in another didnt release right way so. yeah.

My friend switched his bindings from pivot 14's to 18's cause his ski would come off every time he did a mute grab with dins on 12-13

this CAN be valid... do you have any intel on how worn his boot soles were? definitely have done it regardless..

He was replacing boot soles pretty often hiking airbags but it would happen even when new I think. He later started doing dubs and stuff but I remember him pulling skis off long before that.

Pipe boys like it high up i heard.. i have a tyrolia attack 18 and have my din at 13.. the release is very good at that setting but i mostly do jumps and im pretty light so i dont have to crank em up higher.
