Are they crud bashers? How do they compare to Moment Bibby pros and other dense bombproof skis?

The 118mm wide 2900g black ops?

14326649:animator said:I got on it expecting a super burly playful charger and was met with a ski that was grossly soft in the tips and tails to the point where I was folding them (I’m only 5’11 and 200 pounds and I was skiing the 186). That combined with a very dead feeling core was enough to deter me for life
14326673:qazwsxedc34 said:Weird. The dense dead feeling is often something I like to bash through crud. I don't mind the 2x4 feeling but if it is folding, dead and that soft dense feeling, then that makes what is branded as a good crud basher into a bad one.
I assume the soft feeling is due to the rubber in the tips and tails. I love rubber, urethane in skis, whether in the tips tails or along the edges. I think rubber in skis makes for a better charging ski but it has to be integrated into a beefy ski that doesn't fold as you've said.

The k2 Pettitor's dense sort of dead feeling is something I adored. I think, obviously, the more epoxy, that is gluing together two types of wood stringers in a ski, make for a more dense pair of skis, rather than one type of wood carved from a single 2x4. k2 is known to use a lot of epoxy. The elastic modulus and rupture of poplar isn't all that great, it's it's low weight. I'd rather have two types of wood, even douglus fir/aspen would be a more bombproof option than a full core poplar.
I believe the enforcer had a poplar and beech wood core with thin sheets of metal. The beech is very heavy, with a very high elastic modulus. In fact, I don't know why ski companies don't use beech more often. I assume because everyone wants light skis. The volkl mantra's abiltiy to slash through crud, certainly is due to its ti but I think the beech just makes it that much better.
