What's the deal with Kerry Miller?

It's clear that he has considerable clout in the industry. He's one of the most accomplished coaches in the industry based on his success with Goepper, T-Hall, and others. Powder Mag did a puff piece on him several years ago that characterized him as the steward of youth freeskiing.

I've also heard and read some downright appalling things about him over the years. Most recently, Goepper revealed on The Powell Movement that Kerry stole $75k from him earlier in his career. This seems to be only the tip of the ice berg.

Does anybody have any insight on this dude? Is either portrayal accurate?

SCary kerry?

its hard to distinguish fact from fiction after the ski industry plays the telephone game with a person ... so i will drop this comment based on things I know, my opinion, but "nothing of what i have heard..."

dudes a major asshole from spaceballs.... an old dude, washed up from ski racing, completely out of place in a kids game of freestyle skiing, a control freak, and when you understand the sport was/is at a point that it needed to breath, he choked it to death. jocked it to death, even a grassroots railjam during the mount snow dew tour a decade ago, he needed his athletes in the spotlight.... "its just skiing, kerry." , either way, he would bad mouth a kid he doesnt know in public (BANDWAGON BULLY), just to have nick martini win a railjam....

he really is, IMO, some kind of competitive ski cult leader from what i have witnessed, what goes on behind the doors of said cult... is where i will draw the line.

the two aren't mutually exclusive. dude could have a huge impact on the skiing community (which doesn't really seem debatable from what you said, but i haven't heard of him before) and still be a huge douche/criminal

This right here. See Lesh, David

He coached/"paid" for coaching for like 6 ppl from my home mtn, all of which had blonde hair and blue eyes. Also heard some pretty fucked up things about him that I can't prove so I won't list to avoid making the telephone game worse. Fuck that guy.

Very Interesting this has appeared here. I had no idea Kerry was still involved in free skiing. I remember seeing him at all the biggest events when I was an aspiring young skier (2005-2011). Thinking how lucky those guys that got to go live and ski at P.C. everyday all winter, and go to school and ski water ramps all summer. Was it all just B.S.?

everyone has to realize santa aint real at some point....

any pro that had the making of a ski career was fake and phoney....

any competitive skiers you have heard of, most likely paid for you to hear of them in a way...

kerrys life is a dark alley of taking money from kids, and kids parents to put them in the spotlight, to give them training others couldnt get, to rig events, to coach freestlye...

its really a shame and a sham that this was acceptable by any bystanders, dont blame me, i was mid nose butter.

Granted this is all shit that was over a decade ago when I was 15, but I remember peers of mine and other coaches always having a strange opinion of the guy or him just having an overall bad or creepy reputation when it comes to what he does allegedly. I know he's been able to work with some incredible talent though at least.

The ski coaching world is weird. You have kids in college who are stoked on skiing and just want a free pass, former athletes who are national team coaches/private coaches, and then this demographic of guys in their late 30s-40s+ working around U18 athletes and getting blackout at the bar every night after every competition. It was a fun gig for a season but it was weird seeing guys work with kids the next morning who were out till 3am last night and tried to hit-on ski team moms at awards.
