wow, u should really look into stuff before u say something like that. The pope not only led the entire roman catholic church (which is huge in case you didn't realize it) but he was also an extremely kind, holy, and inspiring man.

Im Atheist yet I have tremendous respect for the pope. he was an extraordianary person. he spoke 20 languages fluently. he would travel in regualr planes wait until liftoff get out of his first class seat and go to the back of the plain and answer any questions that people had in thier own language or have conversations with them. He made tons of changes to the Catholic church wich made it better. he touched tons of people and made thousands if not millions of lives better. He was very active he skied, played soccer, swam. as I said Im an atheist but I think that he deserves Saint Status for all hes done for so many people he should get something that special to his religion bestowed upon him

"just some old guy that sat there waving his arm" do some research on what he did before you say something like that. your not going to find many people who know what he has done in his life that dont like him.

^im with you on this one, but he was still a good guy.

he leads the church, which most people believe in so much they are willing to die for it. Bunch of crap if you ask me. but the pope him self was a good man as far as people go.

^ totally agree, yes the pope was dope. he did a lot of good for the world, I was watching the news today and they had him being paraded through some street and all the low lifes were there taking pictures of the dead pope.. seriously, are you gonna whip out your album when company comes over and be like 'heres a dead pope'.. thats disgusting if you ask me.

CTC - we dope!

You don't have to do great things to be a great man so don't ask "what he did" that was so great. He was an amazing person.

On that note, he did do great things as well.

He helped bring down communismn, but he still criticised the flaws of capitalism. He was shot, and later on he talked to the man who shot him and forgived him.

He was an inspiration to millions of people to lead better lives. And he had a true rock star status. I've been to a world youth days and it's the most amazing thing I've ever seen. Millions (literally) of fans, all under 35, just screaming and roaring at the sight of the pope. And beleive he it wasn't all bible thumpers. I can vouch for that.

He just had that type of charisma, everyone loved him.

In the end, the pope was great. Period.

Rant over, sorry about wasting your time.

I think people need to realize he was just a man, not god him self as some people seem to treat him.

he was shot on 3 different ocasions and once was 4 times. he more gangsta than 50 cent. thats why he started using the pope-mobile. such a sweet car

The pope is a spiritual leader of over a billion people across the globe. I'd say that makes him a very important person. People from every race, religion, culture or country respect him for what he stands for and what hes done. You cant say that for anyone else in the world.

making changes to the church that were good?

is that like, he made changes with the hierarchy of the church? or like, adjusted things in the bible, because if he adjusted things in the bible (which he can do) i dont think that could be good

I don't need no arms around me I don't need no drugs to calm me I have seen the writing on the wall

on a side note, i think that the catholic church was just perverse with him in his final days, all this posing for a man dying, its just wrong...

Also, he is now known as Pope John Paul II The Great.

How can u think that there is no God? what did every thing just appear all of a sudden, the universe is all in ballance and i dont think that could of just happend on its own.

Someone's going to hell. And fuck you, the Pope was a great man, leader of our faith for 27 years.

What was so great?!?!?!?! are you an idiot. I don't like the catholic church or religions in general, but damn it, he did a lot and was a better man than most of us could ever dream of.

Theres people in the world who have done just as much as the Pope who don't get recognized. I don't think the Pope should be elevated above those people as a saint just because he's the Pope.

big whoop wanna fight about it?

from the economist:

WHATEVER future generations may say about Pope John Paul II, who died on Saturday April 2nd, aged 84, they will look back with amazement on the moment when, for the first time in 500 years, a Christian bishop was in the vanguard of world history. That was in June 1979, barely nine months after the Polish prelate's surprise call to the Vatican, following the untimely death of Pope John Paul I. On a return visit to his homeland, the new pope was bathed in an outpouring of popular devotion that amazed almost everybody, from Warsaw's dissidents to an appalled Soviet Politburo. Millions of Poles turned out to sing, weep and pray with the man they knew as Karol Wojtyla, archbishop of the university town of Krakow. From then on, the Soviet communists began losing their grip on their East European vassals, and the end of the Iron Curtain was in sight. Stalin's mocking question—“How many [military] divisions has the pope?—had received its answer.

He is just a man.

He was the most traveled pope

He spoke many different languages fluently

While battling parkinsons he still managed to do many things

He was a good person

He was very modest and did not flaunt himself as pope

He helped many even those who werent catholic

He was respected and reveered by people and leaders of many religions

if you are upset because of all the media coverage it is because he has held the office of pope for 26 years. this is also the media age and well he is kinda a big deal around the WORLD. whether or not if you are religious a common thread for so many around the world was he was a respected leader and looked up to by so many for his ethics and morals and the way he lived his life. the pope while he is a religious leader, he is also looked to by many of different or no religion as an ethical and moral leader. i think it is great to see the coverage he is getting because it is a way of showing respect and honor for a person. it isnt that normal bullshit news this is actually good news

name me one other person that was had an affect on humanity like the pope, and has died in your lifetime. if you can, i'd bet this individual also had a ton of media coverage celebrating his/her life.

youre saying that there are plenty of people who know 20 languages, bring down communism in europe, forgive those who attempt to assisinate them, lead the worlds largest and most widespread religion, etc, but they stay low key?

not a chance. yes, there are good people in this world. but if they have the same affect, globally, as john paul II, we would know about them.
