What's SidelineSwap?

SidelineSwap

New member
Hey - you may have noticed our logo on the forums today (it's, uh, everywhere), or seen the videos we posted

a few weeks ago.

Basically, we're the place for skiers to buy and sell their gear. We make it safe (every purchase is covered by SidelineSwap Buyer Protection), easy (listing takes under a minute, and we send sellers prepaid shipping labels), and simple.

And we wrote up a quick post on how to make $1,000+ selling your skis and apparel.

Feel free to ask us any questions here. Or message us for 10% off your first purchase.

So, you basically are an NS buy and sell except you print shipping labels for us? I don't see a difference. It's funny how you advertise on NS to take away traffic from their site.

Isn't BST basically Ebay for ski gear? If anything, having a site like sidelineswap is tight because you can post your gear up in multiple places (NS, sidelineswap, ebay, ect) , meaning more people will see your gear, thus you're more likely to sell it.

Seems pointless since it performs the same functions as BST but with buyer protection. But if you've got half a brain then you won't get scammed in the first place. The only reason this has a chance is because NS is pushing it for $$$ since they don't make anything off BST

Yah, but who else that isn't on NS will be using it? Almost no one. They are pushung the idea because they grt a small profit off you're sale, which pretty much no one on NS can even afford. If you're smart ebough, or go through PayPal, you grt buyer protection anyway. I don't see a niche for this app, though a good idea, it's repetitive traffic and nothing really beneficial

I mean the big difference is protection. It's a well run service and these guys are 100% legit. We worked with them on this promotion because we're stoked to give people options.

What we have Here on newschoolers is great for some people. Sure if you know what you're doing you can make it work for you.

However if you want something more organized and risk free... these guys are the tits.

There's a lot of people who browse newschoolers that aren't core members. Tonnes of them. Many orders of magnitude more than actually post heavily.

I have met countless people in my day who are too intimidated to use an anonymous forum to buy and sell gear. We always wanted to build a better system, but never did.

So we give these guys the proverbial tip of the hat, and are super stoked they are supporting the site and helping it grow.

wouldn't it just be more beneficial to have their sideline swap thing built into the forums? I mean, it honestly kinda sucks for the more active members who know how to work the BST forum because it will flow traffic away and they will have to go to it to look for other shit as well. I guess the transition just sucks. IMO it would work better if it was a new forum under gear or something, or have a link somewhere out here

We hear you. We love NewSchoolers -- that's why we're posting on here.

Basically, we want to make buying and selling more secure (as a buyer, you're always protected)...and simpler. So shipping labels, payment processing, etc. When you list on SidelineSwap, you're sharing your gear with a nationwide ski swap with thousands of users. And when you buy, you're 100% protected.

Does NS take a cut of this? Also, it's a free WordPress theme. Seems kinda sketchy.

But it's a really good idea, especially when dealing with new people who might try to scam.

it makes sense to me (assuming the system is good and works well-- i havent looked at it)

ive always gotten comments from NS that they don't have much of an interest in getting involved with buyer protection and playing mommy and daddy for people buying and selling and i do not blame them, itd be a thankless job most likely

and, no offense, but the BST forums arent amazing. who on earth really goes into the "want to buy" forum to look for a post that happens to be asking for an item that they have to sell? it should just be one forum, with a rule that says you have to post "WANT TO SELL _____" or "WANT TO BUY____" in the title

and there have been plenty of people scammed on here. if these guys can fix these problems and be rewarded for it, good for them!

No we don't take a cut of this, but these guys are advertising with us which makes them A+ in my books. :)

Yeah I mean as much as I love our active BST thing on Newschoolers, we simply don't have the capacity to oversee it. As such all transactions done are at the risk of the buyer and seller. We have forums, and if people want to communicate with them in there... then more power to you.

That's why we like showcasing stuff like this. Someone focused on it can do a good job. Those who want to get the absolute cheapest possible stuff and know the system will use a forum to do it and that's great too. Nice to have options, again especially if you aren't an extremely core member.

And make a few bucks while your at it, don't forget that part.

"SidelineSwap takes a percentage of the sale price when the item sells. SidelineSwap's Fees Policy, which is subject to change, is incorporated into this Agreement by reference. "

Well in fairness they need to make a profit. Nothing wrong with that... They offer a service and need to be compensated if people use it. It's not like they are hiding from it...

I agree, there's nothing wrong with trying to make a profit, but take a look at their website and try and find how much they charge. Then tell me they're not trying to hide it.

They don't really offer trades anymore either, both people have to buy the items from the other person so that Sideline Swap can get there cut.

NS is and has been an awesome place for cool friendly people to trade and sell stuff and I'm not a big fan of Sidelineswap trying to come in and make money off of the community that NS has built over the past 15 years.

Hey, that Wordpress theme is just our blog.

We're at sidelineswap.com.

We switched to "double-buy" trades because true trades are ripe for scamming. (We'd spend hours every month working with local law enforcement or tracking down parents [!] -- not a great use of our time.) It's insurance, basically.

In general, we agree with you: BST is great. If you can find a buyer within the community, and the trust is there, that's a no brainer. (The trust part is key: if you've ever wrangled with Paypal Protection on either the buy or sell side, you know that it's a complicated process with little transparency. Here's a good writeup on why it's not really protection.)

I'd just encourage you to think about SidelineSwap as an alternative -- an athlete-driven marketplace with more protection than Paypal, and lower fees than competitors. (Our share is 9%, and we apply a firm $20 cap. That covers most ski items.)

We're partnering with NS because there's really no better ski community out there. We'd be the first to say that if you can do the deal with a trusted member of the BST community, that should be your first choice. But consider listing on SidelineSwap, too -- it's another pool of buyers and sellers, and we're 100% focused on making the marketplace work for our users. If you have any specific questions about that, drop me a line at conor@sidelineswap.com.

We'd argue, from experience, that Paypal Buyer Protection is often more flash than substance --

here's a good takedown from an Aussie consumer organization.

Because we control the process, we offer a full returns/refund policy. And we move quickly. (Anyone who has sought a return or refund on SidelineSwap would testify to this.)

For sellers, we provide shipping labels, lower fees, and 24/7 support. For buyers, we provide a place to snag great deals and feel secure doing so. We're not reinventing the wheel, for sure -- but we are trying to build a true marketplace for athletes.

NS buy sell trade is good if you want to buy 160 cm park skis and a d bunch if jiberish and saga gear. I was looking on sideline they have a broader range of ski gear and skis. Even some race stuff

Bishop siphon some ad cash my way I was actually giving a genuine opinion not towing the company line.

I'm sure you guys are legit but posting an article called Make $1000 Selling Ski Gear makes you sound anything but.

sounds like something adbots come on here and post in the forums.

"My friend Karen made over $1000 selling ski gear online! find out how at sidelineswap.co!!!1"
