It's shoulder season and I'm bored. Thought I'd open up questioning for those interested. Ask me anything about doing time behind the wire?
 
what level of prison were you in? did you have roommates? what did you do to keep busy? did you feel safe or get in any fights? what are the other prisoners like? is it true that "you dont make friends in prison"? how did you keep yourself from going crazy?

California has 4 levels. 1 being dorm living and low risk inmates and 4 being your "bad people". I started out my term level 3 in high desert. I read a lot to keep busy, worked out everyday, played cards and did my best to keep quiet. It's all about flying under the radar. I got into multiple fights. Won some lost even more. Didn't have to stab anybody or anything but most of the time I did have a weapon because dudes are trying to kill you and prison politics kind of call for it with the whites. And yes I did make some friends. Prison is full of young kids with issues who don't need to be there. You don't give a heroin addict or some small time thief these crazy long sentences I saw some folks get handed. There are good people locked up but yeah a majority of inmates I wouldn't trust as far as I can throw. Lived in a cell with a cellie most of my time down but my last year I dropped points and lived in a dorm, got into a welding program and learned how to weld.

No. But I got locked up before trailer park boys was on Netflix or even before Netflix was a thing. I had watched the first before and I would always use rickyisms and talk about the show and people would look at me like I was full of shit.

Drinking and driving. I racked up a few DUIs in a short period of time after high school. I pled out and the deal was a few years probation with completion of a year long inpatient program. Part of the deal was I took an 8 year suspended sentence. I got kicked out of the program because of chew and I knew I was going to get the full 8 so I took off to Montana thinking I could run from my problems.

Normal dudesy age just caught up in the system. If you share the same interests it's easy to get along. Some of the coolest people i met were lifers and my best cellie was already down for 20 something with 50 or so to go, just really calm and easy going for the most part.

Was in jail for 19 hours. On the way back from a multi day hiking trip got pulled over. For 22 over the speed limit but since there were 2 cones marking a small boulder on the side of the road, he said it was a construction zone and added 10 more mph,32 over total. Frikn dick. At dinnertime everyone was saying dont drink the koolaid but it looked so good I drank it anyway. It tasted like piss but went back for seconds anyway. Didnt sleep till the next day and was woken up because someone bailed me out.

I was released on November 4th of 2017. I've been out for a little bit. But prisons are flooded with cellphones.

Absolutely. I never got any but there were many an overweight nurse that were giving it up.

That's so fucked. Going from probation to most of a decade in prison for chew?
 
Shame you didn't go in Montana OP I've heard Montana and Idaho have bomb ass pen and you can get a TV and Xbox in your cell for not that much $$$.

I've been on fish row in Montana. I was on the run and got busted up there. It was chill. When I got transported out of state to a private prison I had a tv. I had a cellie who had an xbox for sometime and I got real good at call of duty and FIFA.

Absolutely. The whites and southerner's kick it while the northern Mexicans kick it with the blacks. But "allies" no. Those Mexicans love stirring the pot. Know that sounds a bit rascist but it's the truth. They grew up punking white boys on the streets and think that shits cool to do on the inside. I almost started a riot for getting into it with one. That's a good story.

This November will be my first time seeing the board. I have no violations no dirty drug test or anything in my current parole officer says I have a very good shot.

Very good. I had a good friend do almost 7 yrs(drug related) and when she got out it was quite an extensive out patient program. I had to be cleared by her PO just to socialize with her. I am sure every state is different too but great to hear you are doing well. Good luck and keep it up! No fun being in the system.

Cali took free weights out in 2001 or 02 I believe. It was all bar workouts and pushup type stuff. My burpee game was fierce. We did this workout called a hammer. By the end you had done 1100 burpees with pushups
